LOL Insatiable!

But seriously, who'd of expected the Germans to beat Brazil 7-1? Not me for a start. Wish I'd put some money on that game!

If you have watched Brazil play the previous matches, you would have expected that. They played badly from the beginning showing that their days of glory were over. Virtually every match reeked of bribery, with refs always favouring Brazil. Then an excellent Colombia loses very suspiciously to a weak Brazil. FIFA is corrupt, we all know that. Why else do they still refuse to allow video footage to be used to confirm a refs decision... Alas for Brazil teams like the Deutsche Mannschaft cannot be bribed and as expected the Germans steamrolled over the Brazilians like the well-oiled machine they are. I usually don't cheer for the Germans, but this time I did. When the score was 5-0 within the first half hour, my husband and I started wondering whether those 100 German supporters in the crowd were going to be able to safely return to their hotel. I did feel for the Brazilian fans though, as soccer is a big part of the identity of these people. Let's pray for a low casualty count that will surely follow the riots.

The 7-1 drubbing of Brazil will mean nothing to Germany if they do not win the World Cup on Sunday.

Bexy is correct in saying Brazil's offense was getting less and less every game they advanced and without Neymar and their captain, I think Brazil knew they had little chance of beating Germany.  Germany is very good at holding a one goal lead, let alone a seven goal lead.

Finally some scoring! Yea, for scoring in FutBol...

Who is left? I kind of liked Columbia, the way they ran around and danced after a score... points for endzone celebrations...

In saying that I didn't expect the Germans to beat Brazil, I did mean exactly that - what I meant or should have said, was, by such a huge scoreline.

Ah yes, same here. I was expecting Brazil to lose, but a massacre of this scale was not something I imagined. It looked like a team of fathers were playing a game against their sons. I found it painful to watch, even more painful knowing how much money the Brazilian government put into the event whilst their city and social infrastructures are in dire condition.

As They Say:   "It's not over till the fat lady sings".
I would hope that Germany manages to carry it through to the end.
But this is sports and anything can happen......just have to wait and see.

Painful to watch?  When have you ever seen 5 goals scored in 18 minutes in a World Cup semi-final match?  Could have been worse for Brazil -they could have been knocked out after the first round.

I will clarify: I found it painful to watch after the 5-0. You could see the Brazilian players were completely flabbergasted and didn't know what to do anymore. I felt genuinely sorry for them for having to walk the gauntlet for another hour. And I see it differently. If they had been eliminated early on in the Cup with a less spectacular score like 1-0, expectations wouldn't have had the chance to rise so high. But I may be wrong.

I only got to hear it and it was rough to listen to. My kids watched it along with my wife. She left when they added the 2 minutes of extra time. She said it was bad enough to watch the 90 let alone make Brazil play another 2 minutes.

You're not wrong, and I agree with you -- on both points.

If Brazil didn't make it out of Group play, or had lost in the first elimination round, their defeat would have been incomparably less painful than losing in the semifinals -- and losing as ignominiously as they did.

I watched the match in its entirety -- including the inexcusable additional two minutes -- and I truly felt sorry for them.

OK, back to the topic of the OP. Since we are looking at the last game till Sunday that matters, I don't really thing at this point that it matters, Germany should win. I do believe that the Netherlands is a better team but pretty sure that Argentina will end up winning, just to piss us all off. After that it's all Germany.

Cheering for my Dutch neighbours and friends right now. Those shitty Argentinians did nothing but block the rest of the game after their goal against Belgium and turned it into an unworthy match. Hup Holland, hup!!!

Germany / Netherlands would make a great final to the games.
I could support both teams.
