Think the Netherland's 5-1 drubbing of Spain was the biggest loss by a former World Cup champion team.  If anything, the loss probably woke up the Spaniards.

I'm not so sure, the Spain looked arrogant at the beginning, but when things began to turn against them they seemed to fall into a nightmare sleep. Supposedly they have some of the best players in the world, but they didn't fight back with their vaunted talent. They will still probably progress to the next round, but Chile looked pretty good last night beating Australia 3-1 and Australia didn't lie down either.

Spain is running a lot younger team than four years ago. Yes, they are up there in the odds for winning but it is a different team. Another thing with Spain is that they have proven over and over that they are a slow start team and they do not fair well when having to fight up from a game deficit.

Also four years ago they lost the opener game only to go on and win the whole thing

In 2010, Spain gave up only two goals in the entire Cup.  England vs Italy this afternoon should be a good one.

Well, I didn't see that coming...

I knew the Germany v Portugal game would be good, but I didn't think that Germany would destroy the Portuguese so utterly. Of course, having a one man advantage helps, but Portugal didn't play to anything like they can.

Some of the results this tournament have been strange to say the least with teams that you wouldn't expect to get beat so comprehensively being taken apart.

And what I find funny is that I have not been surprised yet. Other than the Swiss goal with 20 seconds left in extra time, each match has seen the team I felt the better winning.

I knew Germany would win, I just thought it would be 2-1 or 3-1 in the end. All I saw with this game is that the USA might have a better shot at moving out of our group.

Well done to the USA squad. A slow boil match that really livened up with half an hour or so to go. Good win and thoroughly well deserved.

I think the defence still needs a bit of work as the Ghanaians had way too much space when they were attacking from the flanks - too many defenders in the centre of the pitch for my taste.

U S A!      U S A!

Good to see the USA team not fold after Ghana scored the equalizing goal at the 82nd minute.

Btw - think I saw a stat where Germany has scored at least 4 goals in their first game of the last three World Cups.

Belgium - Algeria  2-1

First half of the match sucked as the Algerians did nothing but block the Red Devils. Second half was damn good bloody soccer.

Belgium - Russia  1-0

We made it to the second round.

That was a really sweet goal also

True, excellently placed by Hazard and finished off by Origi, but they played an overall weak match.

On the news here: a Ukranian reporter sang 'lalalalala' when Belgium scored against Russia. Apparently Ukranians sing 'Putin culo, lalalalala' (Putin asshole) during protests and the 'lalalala' is the Ukranian national anthem.

I have to say the Netherlands look pretty good right now.  3-0-0 and 9 goals.

True, they had a supposedly tough Spain and a pesky Australian team to contend with. Lets see after the round of 16 finishes.   Will Belgium be the Cinderella team of this World Cup?

The Dutch are doing awesome and there is not a single house in Holland that is not inundated in the color orange.

How about a bet between Bexy and all the men from the US who follow football (soccer)? 8)

Is the USA even still in the hunt for a championship? Didn't we lose to Germany? Does that mean we are all done?

I can't quite catch the fever but I at least am curious enough to ask how we're doing.  :D
