On the way back from Spa we were pulled over by Customs and they took the car apart looking for drugs and guns!

Sorry 'bout that, must have been before the total unification of the EU when the custom checks were still very active. And when they see British or French plates and young men, the conclusion is always: "Visiting the Dutch coffee shops."

That would have been fine Bexy, but it wasn't the Belgian customs, it was the British customs guys!

Those British bastards! :emot_laughing:

We had the same thing happen when vacationing in Norway. Once off the boat every Belgian and Dutch car was pulled aside. The world really must think we're all trafficking drugs all over the place LOL. We had to unpack everything, but once the customs saw all my husband's military gear, they asked if he was in the army, he showed them his military passport and suddenly they were extremely friendly and let us go.

Certain jobs have there perks don't they!! :)

My brother, who's car they started ripping apart told them that if they didn't find anything whilst taking his car apart that he'd make them put it back together again and then sue them for wrongful detention.

Five minutes later they let us go ... but they followed us all the way home from Dover... and home is more than 400 miles away from there.

I will drink beer (but not that camel piss most Americans think is acceptable.)

I will drink wine (but not that swill most Americans think is acceptable.)

I won't drink blended whiskeys. Single Malts only. And then, NO Bourbons, Canadians, or Kentucky.

I don't find that snobby
I find it a matter of taste
I love Guinness

Ain't the NATO SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement) wonderful!  To those who don't know, it makes the military ID like a passport when traveling in the NATO countries.

Different? A lot of people I know can't drive, my experience is if your live in rural area you are automatically geared towards learning to drive from a young age. If you live in a city it's almost quicker to use public transport.

I don't see it as strange in the slightest

I am very Rural and have been driving alone since age 13.....

We are all different with different upbringings. But this is just so foreign to me that an adult doesn't drive...I understand about city living though so your explanation makes perfect sense.
