However, a very fine example of stupid would be the Affordable Care Act.  A badly thought out idea, mixed in an impractical implementation, wrapped with unobtainable goals.  We do need to fix health care, but this plan is stupid.

Despite the fact that is is working quite well in states that have their own exchanges (mine for example)... you must be right. IT MUST BE "STUPID" - I excitedly await YOUR brilliant solution...

Actually Gia, I hate to burst your bubble, but the "self financing" idea of the ACA is already in a death spiral, which was predicted by every economist that was asked about it.  

The only way national health care could work would be as a one payer system, which is political poison.  So in the foreseeable future, nothing is going to happen that works.  The reasons are simple, and I'm a prime example.

I'm a student, my wife works and I have my own income, yet my taxable income is BELOW the level that the system will subsidize ANY part of my premiums.  Under ACA the premiums for the lowest level of care would be $684 a month, with an $8000 deductible.

Now considering that the government standards say I'm in the group the ACA is designed to help, how do any of those numbers make even basic health care affordable?

Again, the reason you are below that is that YOUR state refused to join the Medicaid expansion part of the ACA.

YOU have YOUR State legislators and Governor to thank for screwing YOU to the wall, and LAUGHING about it.

Of course, you could blame SCOTUS for ruling that is was an optional item in the ACA. But then again, you can blame the conservatives on the court for that decision.

The Insurance companies have gone crazy with premiums and kids with conditions like cancer and other debilitating diseases are and have always been getting cared for. What you are doing is spreading propaganda.

The ACA was a terrible bill. It is not what it should be and absolutely I believe that Obama is trying to tear down our country. I don't believe for one second that he is any kind of a patriot and I believe he has an agenda that is counter productive to a healthy economy. I can't wait for America to speak loud and clear when they elect someone other than a Democrat into the oval office. The best thing that ever happened to the Republican party was Jimmy Carter and the next best thing is Barack Obama. Mark my words. His ineptitude will be the most important thing when it comes to putting a new conservative into his position.

I believe I said this before, but here goes.
ACA was a good intention, and I agree that this nation does need universal health care for all legal nationals and citizens.  However the ACA is a badly thought out, poorly implemented, half measure.

The only portion of the ACA that may actually work as planned is the change in the insurance laws that negates the insurance companies "pre-existing condition" clause.  The ACA was intended to be self funding, but will not be.  It WILL end up being a major drain on the budget, and eventually will have to be curtailed or cancelled due to budgetary shortfalls.

The problem is that Washington knows all this, but refuses to make the politically unpopular decisions needed to get anything done. 

That goes for both Democrats and Republicans.
