I very carefully reread your original post.

Quote
So what, republicans have Bachmann, Democrats have Biden. The stupidity evens out in the end.

In effect you are making an apology for her statements as non-consequential.

Stupid remarks that are a pattern are more than misstatement in oratory. Coming from written questions it points to incompetence, stupidity, or callous and possibly ineffective speech writing or inept political maneuvering.

If you condone this level of behavior in an elected official then perhaps you shouldn't bother commenting on any politics. If it's all the same.

Again, read slow this time, I am not defending her words. I am simply stating who cares, both sides have bottom feeders, it is politics, let it go.

The constant parading on these boards of anytime a republican says something stupid is stale, boring, and old.

Worst of all, it takes away other people's ability to see those of you that do that as anything other than goose stepping democrat sheep incapable of thinking or speaking outside of your box. The great majority of you have demonstrated a lot of intelligence but this type of thing really takes away from it. The subsequent attacks, even more so.

Specifically to you KB, call it what you will but when you specifically respond to me and tell me to shut up, then yeah, I may respond in kind. Go figure, human nature.

Snowm, I agree that those posting from the Left in these sections of this board are far greater in number than those posting from the Right. It's a fact -- and, in context, it makes perfect sense. And it's a fact -- so you'll have to deal with it.

I'm one who will always read and consider something coming from the other side of the aisle, or a post whose assertions I disagree with. I welcome an alternative point of view here.

The problem, snowm, is that your posts in the 1408 boards are almost purely reactive, the exact same type of sideline sniping that you accuse your "opponents" of engaging in. Do you want your assertions to be considered by other members? Well, then make some positive assertions, back them up, and defend them. In other words, do more than criticize what others' post, either initially, or as a response. Don't be another GaryMN!

Finally, bear in mind that in posting here from a Conservative point of view you're like a straight guy walking into a lesbian bar. Encountering the likely reaction there, the guy can't complain when his entry generates a negative response, right?

...and why would I go to any effort of posting articles when anyone with a conservative view of things is lambasted without consideration of their content?

Look at KB's response to my original statement...how she got apologetic out of that I will never know. As I have clarified again and again and again, Bachman's statements, Biden's statements, all the others are just moronic utterances from talking heads in a political machine that really has no one's interests at heart except their own. I will continue to criticize, attack, ad hominem attack people as I see fit that paint themselves as well rounded intellectuals that champion the cause of civil oratory skills whereas in reality they are constantly chomping at the bit for a fight against any dissenting opinion.

I thank you for yours and KB's opinion on how I should and should not act in 1408, the feedback is appreciated.

not really, I just think the other side tends to have a myopic view of what a conservative is and thinks we are all bible thumping idiots. No chance people could have a different take on things than the take the media tells you to believe.

Thats the view many conservative republicans put out into the public eye. They follow a book without knowing it and they quote it as if its complete truth. and they ignore all evidence of the contrary. I have a preacher come by my house atleast once a month and we talk about the bible. I feel more openess from him than anyone on the republican side of the party.

Late at night you are walking and you see a floating light and you think huh. You keep walking and see me just standing there blank faced.

Indeed why try? All is decided. I'm going to take my ball and go home. If you don't let me win I will stand on the sidelines and make snide remarks.

Is this the hallmark of conservatism? There are members here who post conservative ideas, and defend them. Actually, most of what they post as arguments are really moderate. So I see your problem.

There are few "real conservatives" here. But your problem is deeper than that. You haven't the strength of your convictions to stand by them and argue their merits, or you have no convictions to speak of.

Your position wasn't a position, it was sour grapes. Take a position, left, right, or center, but take a position. Joan does, and regardless of the way the posts go in those threads she has taken a stand.

You want to be taken seriously, respected? Then take a stand and don't spout mealy-mouthed platitudes that reek of intellectual and moral cowardice.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count, and those who can't.

The sarcasm of your final line is duly noted. And I actually did crack a smile when I read it.

I'm not sure how you confused a well-intentioned and supportive suggestion with "telling you how you should and should not act," but that's your prerogative, I suppose.

I don't really have an answer to your initial question. I suppose it IS pointless to post something here that someone else might take issue with, or criticize, or attack. But, at the risk of "telling you what you should do," you really should consider joining the Clique. They ALWAYS agree with EVERYTHING posted by one of the members of their little group. You'd feel right at home there!

As for members "constantly chomping at the bit for a fight against any dissenting opinion," really? In 1408? Who knew?

Yeah look at KB's response above yours, just more of the same. I didn't even respond in this thread to start an argument. It was simply a who cares comment, just more of the same political talking heads, talking out of their ass, it happens within both sides so why get fussed when one or the other does it? Look what it deteriorated into? Accused of not having convictions, being morally cowardice? My my my how high of a pedestal we keep ourselves on...

(to be clear the following is not directed to or in response to KB, just generalities)
I think what chaps my hide is the same people that lament poor sportsmanship, name calling, etc in 1408 turn around and do it the first opportunity they have. It's childish and crass. When someone kicks it right back the wolves come out to defend a pack member, simple as that. That is the way of these forums. People can choose to play this little game but know you are playing a game and stop trying to fool the casual observer that you are above the rest of us.

I sincerely thank you for your civility MissB, rare commodity these days when people can so easily hide behind their screen and spout off to total strangers.

My, what a nice pot/ kettle statement.

Your equating poor ad-lib speaking that has no political content with reading prepared questions with barbed political intent, then no wonder you can't see why your original statement was a apologetic defense of Bachmann.

Except KB, my verbal barbs are always reactionary because that is all that I know how to do, remember that gem from earlier?

On what planet is a sitting VP at a public speaking engagement not political in nature? He is representing his party and our country. Seems pretty simple.

Bachmann is a dumbass, Biden is a dumbass, Palin is a dumbass, Clinton is a conniving dumbass. They are all cogs in the same political machine. Doesn't matter if they are painted blue or red, they still go around and around and around.

I do not just take into account politically centered comments documented on politifact as a sign of competence. Nor do I buy the, well he talks a lot so statistically he is bound to slip up more...does politifact have the gem of Biden telling the wheelchair bound guy to stand up and take a bow rated as pants on fire? No, seriously doubt that was included...

You people need to not get your panties in a wad every time someone breaths a hint that perhaps there are some democrats that say things just as dumb as some republicans.
when we are referring directly to political speech and you specifically pull in NON-POLITICAL remarks made by someone as the equivalent you are mixing types of speaking and their intent. You specifically referenced a non-political remark and equated it with a specifically political comment by Bachmann.

Again, your comparisons are irrelevant and illustrate nothing.  By mixing these types you equate Bachmann's statement to the same level of mis-statement as an off-the-cuff remark by the VP.

They are NOT the same.

If you have a problem with understanding this you really need to invest in a class on English grammar and a class on speech writing/public speaking to learn about the fallacy you are perpetuating.

Your logic is approaching the same type of logic used on The Free Republic. And that is very fuzzy thinking.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Bachmann is a dumbass, Biden is a dumbass, Palin is a dumbass, Clinton is a conniving dumbass.

Seriously? Dumbasses?

Bachmann defines batshit Christianity crazy and VP Biden does put his foot in his mouth every now and again, and I don't really want to argue the finer points of his education or his shining record of public service, however... I have to ask you - in what alternate universe does an ignorant Clinton reside?

I'm not sure if you are referring to Bill or Hillary, but what in the blinding blue fuck are you talking about?

William J Clinton attended the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., receiving a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (B.S.) degree in 1968.

Upon graduation, he won a Rhodes Scholarship to University College, Oxford where he studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics, though because he had switched programs and had left early for Yale University, he did not receive a degree there.

After Oxford, Clinton attended Yale Law School and earned a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in 1973.

In 1965, Hillary Rodham enrolled at Wellesley College, where she majored in political science. In 1969, she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, with departmental honors in political science. She then entered Yale Law School, where she served on the editorial board of the Yale Review of Law and Social Action. She received a Juris Doctor degree from Yale in 1973.

By the way... they both have the same degree (Juris Doctor) that our current VP and Representative Bachmann have.

In fact, Michelle Bachmann was a member of the first class of the O. W. Coburn School of Law, then a part of Oral Roberts University (ORU).

She worked as a research assistant on Eidsmoe's 1987 book Christianity and the Constitution, which argues that the United States was founded as a Christian theocracy, and should become one again (see? koo-koo, not stupid).

In 1986 Bachmann received a Juris Doctor degree from Oral Roberts University. In 1988, Bachmann received an LL.M. degree in tax law from the William & Mary School of Law.

So no stupids in this group... Batshit crazy, inappropriate and scandalous, yes... but stupid? Nope.

armed drones discussion needs to be brought to the surface, should be a war crime

Pray tell, why should armed drones be a 'war crime'?
edit:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGM-114_Hellfire

That's 4 Hellfire missiles on the two outer pods, dunno what the two inner pods are carrying.  This variant of the Hellfire is laser-guided: it follows a reflected laser spot on the target, which can be either from a ground-pounder with a laser designator or from the Predator.  They're VERY accurate, but only as good as the intel that says "friend or foe".

It is philosophical, and simply be my opinion, "that any engaging army should have to risk personnel as a sign of their conviction to engage an enemy and to kill the enemy". If one country uses them, then all should be permitted to use them if they can develop them. Someday a more wicked country than the US will have them, and will use them to slaughter innocents, or their own people. I know there have weapons for many years (ICBMs) that do not require manned personnel, but that is my logic. The good guys will not always be the ones to use them.

We are only considered the "Good Guys" Because it's our team. I'm relatively certain that in many corners of the globe we are not seen as the "good guy".
