Pretty good, LS, and Gia...  :emot_laughing:

That being said, I DO like dubstep, trance, house, jungle, IDM, acid-jazz... all of it. I like rock better, but only by a bit, and don't see it as a better form of music, merely as a personal preference.

The squirrel was right about this- there are too many hacks out there. Here's an EXTREMELY early dubstep artist, and a personal friend. He is neither repetitive nor unoriginal, at least not at all on this one:

Don't sweat the petty stuff, pet the sweaty stuff.

Gia, you are a big Beatles fan, right? When the Beatles came out, suddenly every piece of shit hack in the world tried to jump on their coat-tails at once. The only way the Beatles could stay cool was to evolve.

Albums like Revolver show them in transition, from starting out as candy pop (granted, good candy pop) to Sgt. Pepper's and the White Album. Not that there is any talent at that level in dubstep, but the hacks are there. Good call on wanting more from the art than you have heard, though. Nothing at all wrong with that.

Don't sweat the petty stuff, pet the sweaty stuff.

Any time some kind of new genre of electronic music comes out there is always a flood of mediocrity that comes along with it. Just like any genre of music -- country, rock, metal, etc -- you have to wade through a river of shit to get to anything good.

Coincidentally there is also a flood of people talking shit that comes along with that wave of mediocrity, "This isn't what I grew up with! This is terrible!" Congratulations, you turned into your parents when you weren't looking.

That being said, I tend to hate dubstep kids on the internet. Just about every song on Youtube that has a bass line (of any sort) has kids on there making comments like, "This is pure dubstep!" It's like they are trying to convince themselves that dubstep is good. In all likelihood the dubstep they listen to is probably fucking terrible, hence the needing to convince themselves.

I have a hard time accepting that statement. I look at music this way. Everyone likes different things, otherwise there wold not be such a variety in life. Music is the same way. What I like, others will hate and that goes the opposite also. I like post metal core and I would guess that if there are 3 more members here that like what I like, it would be a stretch. Is what I listen to fucking terrible, NO, it's not main stream. I understand that a lot of us here do not like main stream music. HELL, I hate when someone posts the pop song radio mainstay crap. But I will add that the "What are you listening to" thread is full of posts that I could not get thru 1 minute of the song let alone the whole thing. I still don't post against it, I just ignore it.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure you just agreed with me.

I agree with you that there is bad music out there. We disagree on the fact that I would never tell someone what they listen to is crap or would I ever post that something is bad. I hate, HATE almost everything that is posted in the "listening" thread as of late. Does that make all them posts crap....You and others like it so thats great. I would never tell you that it's crap. Everyone has their own tastes and likes.

If Dubstep teens like their music, thats great. Your original post really was comments about kids liking anything with a bass drop. Hey, their kids. They are trying to find themselfs in a big world as everything is chaanging, within themselves, friends and the world. So they like a bass drop in a song and thing its pure dubstep, to them it is. That does not make it crap, it makes it a song that you don't like but they do. When that group fills that bar or club or dance hall or whatever and all them kids leave happy, that band did what they set out to do. No music is crap, its all just different sounds to different people.

I'm a weirdo, as just about everybody knows already. I like all but about 0.002 percent of all music. I'm a hippie who is not a rabid fan of the Beatles (I like them fine, but they aren't the beginning and end of music), I'm a metal fan who doesn't like Metallica (not too much, just because of the vocals), I'm a classical music fan who doesn't like Mozart best (Handel all the way) and I love the 90's grunge stuff, but I like Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam better than Nirvana. I almost never complain about what is being played (it beats silence). I listen to everything from the "listening" thread sooner or later, all the way through. I'm weird, not better than anyone.

That being said, I will, on that rare occasion when I truly dislike something, tell anyone around that it is not for me, and I'll seek to leave, or turn it off. The only band I just HATE recently is (fun.). My brother loved them, so I left the house when he played them (I don't live there). After awhile, he stopped playing them when I was around (hopefully forever).

Anyway, mor music, less bullshit from me:

Don't sweat the petty stuff, pet the sweaty stuff.

Always have liked that song Forgetfulish. You hear it a lot in dub remixes on youtube. I like to find them 2 hour long mixups and just let it run in the background on a Saturday morning while I do paperwork

As for FUN, I really only like their radio hit and even that, I won't look it up to play. Go over to the cover tunes thread for a cool cover and one I like a lot more than the original
