I refrain from using a Boo to express a disagreement or hurt feelings. I think tha the use of negative karma should be reserved for expressing disagreement for totally unacceptable behavior or statements that far exceed the standard of the community. And even then I hesitate to put karma as the tool. It is far better to air the disagreement or feelings.

However, not everyone here agrees with that pholosophy.

Like Melbourne, whose petty, spoiled little girl bitchiness is starting to show.

Booing because you're not getting the positive attention you crave is the most pathetic of all uses of karma.

Melbourne, you don't like me. That's fine, little girl. You are an insignificant light-weight, immature, thin-skinned, clueless, ego-centric "princess". And every Boo you send my way will prove that.

I agree with you, Katie. When I eventually get boo'd I hope it will be for a damn good reason and not from some petty bullshit.

If its worth anything, those of us who love you pay no mind to your negative karma.  :emot_kiss:

Negative karma means nothing when it's sent in a moment of pique.

It doesn't worry me. I value the comments made by you and others either in open posts or by PM. That has worth and meaning.

My mom taught me that "if you can't say anything positive don't say anything at all."

Accordingly, I rarely give boos.

I also ignore the boos I get as they likely come from folks that don't have manners or matter anyhow.  Woos are pretty cool though.

I'm hoping whoever takes my Boo-ginity goes easy on me.   I'm afraid it's going to hurt.

As I have reached the 100 boos milestone(thank you mel, I deserved that one), I feel qualified to express an opinion. 90% of the boos I have received  are expected if only because I also hold the record for dishing them out. Now and then I get one and think, "what did I do?" I had one from Poppet recently(number 99)and having read my reply couldn't for the life of me understand what she didn't like. You might wonder why I give so many boos, I see it as a small counterweight to the slush of candy floss woos that people spew out, ' just cos' i love you babe' 0vomit0
The whole point of the karma system is for members to express their like or dislike of a particular post, very few of the woos have anything to do with posts and by dishing them out like Mardi Grass beads they just become nothing but evaporating pink clouds, meaningless.

One thing I will say though is that though you claim that your boo doesn't matter, the fact that you made this thread suggests that it really does bother you. Best not to let these things get to you. It's completely inconsequential.
not the boo so much as the justification. "You know why."

And yes I do know why, hence my post.

Joan and I spar incessantly on politics. Her arguments and political stance often results in very heated exchanges. I like and respect Joan. She doesn't act like a spoiled child. Melbourne is acting like she's still in high school. My response to her actions are to call her on poor behavior.

Grm knows my philosophy on BOOing.  I was against it from the start.  And Katie has shown a perfect example of why I am against it.

"Won't feel a thing"?!? Damn, TD, you just shattered all my pre-conceptions about the joys of heterosexual lovemaking.   ;)

She was talking about booing him. When will gay women learn that us straight people aren't defined by our sexual activity?!?

You aren't?!? Damn, Farmer Miles, you just shattered yet another of my pre-conceptions about the joys of heterosexual lovemaking.

Sadder, but wiser...

OK, so I give WOO to friends for their posts, and to new members for a hello. SO
I try and give WOO to a wide range of members.

As for the BOO, I would rather slash it out on the board in public than send a BOO. I want to be able to voice my opinion and give that member the chance to explain themselves. I feel that this gives the board more weight and fleshes out us members also. I use to BOO a lot and really didn't care. As stated, I have a different outlook on it now.

AS for Mel, I damn near gave a BOO today if just for katie. I read katie's post and did not see much difference in her reply than mine with a board explane of how things work and how members view stuff.

This is the net, get over yourself. You are not special, you are not privileged and god only knows what sex you even are......CATFISH anyone

I like the intention of the karma system and I try to use it the way it was intended, only using it for exceptional posts, either good or bad. Very few members use it that way though. A huge number of the woos are handed out to new members, members passing milestones and just handed out between friends. It seems kind of juvenile to me. I mean, what kind of friendship needs constant validation like that? Anyway, the boos are much the same, most of them being dealt out over personal dislike between members.

Long story short, I've set out in my own narcissistic and masochistic way to prove how broken the karma system is, by trying to acquire more negative than positive karma.  While there are people here I like and respect, and there are people here who I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire, my message board score in this small corner of the internet is not an important achievement.

It's not my call and I've never brought this up before because it's not my board, however I think the system needs to be revamped, restricting people to only using one plus and one minus per day overall.   It would encourage people to think about using it for worthy content or something they feel very strongly about.  It would support thinking for yourself, and not support the mindless carebear lemmings we have (ab)using the current system.

I loved that you opened this thread to really start trashing Mel instead of doing it in the member's area.

This is my first website, and so I thought the silly woo system meant a lot at first, and I was eager to earn woos (stupid and childish, I know). I don't know who at this point has been giving me so many, but I give them out to my friends often, and newer members more readily.

As far as "exceptional posts" go, I'm perhaps too new to have a high standard. Either that, or you could just say I'm a woo slut.

Don't sweat the petty stuff, pet the sweaty stuff.

Heh heh, I'm gonna start giving out boos to people that don't have any yet then send them a PM saying "I got your boo-cherry!"

Will that make me rapist?
