Very sage as well as prudent  advice Ms Bexy. While on this topic I would like to comment on a related point based on personal experience. When I joined KB, approximately  5 years ago, I cannot recall why I failed to take advantage of “Say Hello”, or even indeed noticing its availability. When I eventually did I still didn’t take advantage of it feeling the moment, as it were, had passed. It seems to me if I had received a welcoming letter on joining pointing out the things you’ve done, Bexy, as well as noting what’s been pointed out by another noted member that benefits of membership in KB are largely a function of participation of its members I would undoubtedly have introduced myself. In the particular regard to participation I unequivocally plead guilty, not due to a lack of interest but a shortage of available time. I promise someday to flesh out several literary ideas fermenting on the back burner.
I know......promises, promises, promises........on the other hand what can be expected of an old geezer who's as keenly interested in physics as in human relationships? How many KB members are interested in the mysteries of the Higgs boson particle?
Still, my sincere compliments to the Captain on the bridge.
Serviceman.

I like this thread. A lot.

I also would like to provide a thought:
Image editing programs are available for every platform/device out there. If you take a picture of your privates to privately post publicly, photoshop everything that might give away identity. If there's hesitation, send the pic to me and we'll talk about it first.  ;D

And OM the exif data on pics!! I had a chick send me her pic, email it to me. Iphones and other cam phones imbed GPS data into pictures. I was able to use this data and google map her house! It freaked her out and hopefully taught her a lesson.

Now I just need to figure out which window to peek into!!  ;D

I use a simple (and FREE!!) app to do simple editing of photos.  It's WAAAYYYY easier than Photoshop or other high-end apps, yet still lets you do all of the stuff you normally need.

http://photofiltre.free.fr/download_en.htm

One of it's best features: if you're editing a photo with embedded EXIF data, it gives you the option to REMOVE all of that crap before saving the photo.  I always do. ;)  No need giving away my exact location to all and sundry.

note: it has language packs for nearly any language you prefer, as well.

edit: grab the SECOND download, the portable version WITHOUT the freaking ASK toolbar.  You don't need Yet Another Freaking Worthless IE add-on.

Here's an example:  I did a couple of minor edits, and when I clicked the SAVE button it automatically added a check-box to allow me to remove the EXIF data.  If there's no EXIF data in the photo, that check-box doesn't appear.  Un-check it, and all of that junk EXIF data disappears (camera type, lens settings, YOUR LOCATION, etc.)

No problemo!  ;D  As you well know, I'm ALL OVER personal privacy!  I want to protect everyone here from anyone stalking them.

That, plus FREE is always a Good Thing, if it's truly worth using.  This one is.

Since this has gone technical, for those who use Macs, the recommended application is GraphicConverter.

It's a smaller program than Photoshop, has some, but not all of the same capabilities, and you can edit the metadata.

The GraphicConveter I use is by Lemkesoft, and is priced at $50.

I would like to add something from experience if you would allow.  I havnt really stalked a lot of pictures but if you are using photobucket as a host, be sure to lock your albums unless you don't mind someone poking through your pictures, as even though the picture you post here doesn't have any info in it, your other pictures on photobucket might. Like a picture of your college class or something.  Images from photobucket are hotlinked with a url that includes your username and what album its in.  Not that I have been that creepy guy before or anything.  Trust me :D

I have a question that is slightly related to this.  What do the black bars over the eyes actually do?  I've noticed that some self pics (my favorites btw ^.^) have them, but I guess I don't understand what that actually does.  I personally love eyes :)

Wow... Previous post was a bit retarded, wonder who put that there :D  (Don't work for them anymore btw, so you can trust me even more, right?)

You can't tell who it is with the black bar. Or that's the thinking.

I remember when my kids were small...We would play peekaboo and they thought they could hide just by covering their eyes. It was soooo cute.

It's funny in my head because I've met friends online who wore sunglasses in a picture.  Then on the rare occasion (which if I was creative would go in the stories section) I meet one in person, I still recognized who they were without the sunglasses.  I guess I'm just missing how the black bar protects someone, unless eye color is an important factor that I'm missing, of course. :)  If you wanted to protect your ID, wouldn't you want to hide your whole face?  Which would be a bit of downer, that's where most of the beauty is ;)

lol Janus, I never even thought of that :D

Thank you about the advice about putting up pictures of yourself. I didn't even think about people i know being here. Being new here I wasn't thinking.
