Our station just picked up a whole lot of new stuff. I particularly like
* Queens of The Stone Age - Villains
* Arcade Fire - Creature Comfort
* Haim - Something To Tell You.
* Penguin Cafe- Umbrella

Loads more to listen and enjoy.

Back when Dawson's Creek was still on, I'd seen an episode where four of the characters shared true scary stories. The last story was told by Jen's grandmother. She shared an experience Jen had whole DJ-ing at her College radio station late one night.
What really made the atmosphere of that one so scary, was hearing Marilyn Mansion cover the Eurythmics,' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These)". That song freaked me out.
Every week I check Brand New This Week on Music Choice [though Music Choice is crap compared to what it used to be, five, ten years ago]. I saw Marilyn Landon was back, with a cover of "Cry Little Sister" from The Lost Boys. Now that song was ominous as it was, so I just HAD to check out the music video. Pretty creepy...

Josh Lee Turner

Discovered his YouTube vids a few days ago. Young and musically talented. Does justice to cover songs.

Lauren Bousfield released a new album yesterday, you should absolutely check out her work if you're into more esoteric glitchy but melodious electronic music

Not *new*, but most likely missed eleven years ago.

I get a channel called COMET TV, and I watched the end of an alien movie, and got to liking the closing credits song. So I kept watching to see who sang it. It was called "No Hero" by Siva Noir.

Ironically, I YouTubed it and couldn't find it, because outside of the movie it's only called "Hero" from the album Amnesia Moon.

It's not Rock, you might call it Alternative, it's definitely catchy.

Avril Lavigne is back to her classic form. She had a fight with limes disease, and came.out with a song that didnt really fit her style. She has since came out with this gem.

I friggin love this song, it's tempo, the beat, the lyrics... it is Avril, the way I remember Avril in my early twenties. Love her, love her music, and I'm happy she's back.

Cherry Red Records (a UK label specializing in reissues) has spoilt my day with an email newsletter listing September releases.

So many interesting albums, by so many talented artists. Many of them never made it big, and their catalog isn't carried by the major streaming services, so pre-ordering a 6-CD compilation, or two, or three, is a gamble. Not to mention the long wait until September or October.

The ones that caught my eye were:

  • Misty — Here Again
  • Plainsong — Following Amelia
  • Iain Matthews — I Can’t Fade Away

Not new as in released today, but Def Leppard released a new album late April, their first in 6 and a half years, Diamond Star Halos. I'd gotten to hear "Kick" first in February/March and "Take What You Want" a few weeks later. Both are amazing songs. I picked up the album on CD the day after it was released for $11.97, haven't had a chance to listen to it yet.

This is definitely not "new" new.

If you're a Bob Seger fan, you may or may not know he retired after releasing his 2014 studio album Ride Out.

But he also released I Knew You When in 2017, an album of songs from his music vault. I highly recommend the tracks "Forward Into The Past" and "Glenn Song", about his friend, the late Glenn Frey of The Eagles.

I was in the local supermarket recently, and they were playing all of these sounds that sounded like '80s songs, but not quite...

One song really caught my attention. It DEFINITELY had an '80s vibe, but the lyrics mentioned sex in a bold way most musicians seemed to avoid back then.

So I went on Google and punched in the lyrics "makeup sex in the middle of a breakup". It was Panic At The Disco! and it's off of their album Viva Las Vengeance from this year.
