Headphones good to hip-hop rapper, producer Dr. Dre

Forbes magazine has named Dr. Dre this year's hip-hop cash king.

The rapper and producer got to the top of the list by generating more than $110 million in pretax earnings. The bulk of that comes from the speaker line Beats by Dr. Dre, which, according to Forbes, "now sells more than half of the country's premium headphones."

Diddy came in at No. 2 with $45 million, much of which came from his share of profits from Diageo's Ciroc vodka.

Rounding out the top five are Jay-Z, $38 million; Kanye West, $35 million, and Lil Wayne, $27 million.

Detroit rapper Eminem just made the top 10, coming in at No. 9 with $15 million.

In NYC, you see those Beats headphones everywhere -- especially the over-ear (i.e. non-earbud) kind. I was in a Target store the other day, and I was shocked to discover that they retail at $200-$300!

No wonder Dr. Dre tops this list!
