I looked for a Queen topic... did not exist... HOW DOES THAT WORK?

Anyway, I am starting it with this post:

Didn't knew that there were any other "Queen" fans here other than Bexy. A woo for starting this post.

And just curious, who is that girl pictured above?

Something about something by someone important.

Seriously? I am going to assume you are being sarcastic, but it is Beyoncé Knowles (or as I like to call her Bey Once)

And here is Queens (arguably) most popular and famous song:

I too like Queen! Agreed, Gia, Bohemian Rhapsody is one of their many and most popular songs. So is this one:
and..
They were also my High School's Football Team's Fighting Songs. Every Pep Rally we blasted these songs at MAXIMUM volume it was like a Queen Concert was in full swing.

Sorry, I have heard the name and listened or watched to a few of her songs, but couldn't connect the face to a name.

And one of my fave Queen songs:

Queen at Live Aid 1985.  I remember watching it on TV. TinyDancer do not forget this for your July 13 this day in music post.

I absolutely love Queen! Freddie was a genius. Such a beautiful soul. Anyone read a good biography on him? I tried to find a decent one for years and heard a lot of them are rubbish.

And "We Are The Champions" still is today for many sports organizations... What I personally enjoy about that is that dear Freddy wrote the lyrics as an anthem for the queer nation... most beer swilling, homophobes don't know that simple fact to this day!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

As I can't seem to find any such reference so can I ask for citation to the above claim?

I can't cite the page number (I got the book from the library), but Freddy Mercury is quoted as saying this it in "Is This The Real Life" by Mark Blake.

And, to Gia's point about clueless "beer swilling, homophobes" above, the Village People song "YMCA" is played at some point at virtually every sporting event in the U.S., from the pros down to little league. And it's a song about a notorious gay pick-up place. Take that, straight people!

Wow! This thread is already a gold mine for me. I was completely ignorant about both of these facts. I love you guys.  :emot_kiss:

But the only complication which remains is if I ever quote these facts, most of my friends would ask for cross-checking references, which I don't have for both of these. I just have search a little harder I guess.

Always knew about the YMCA song content but not about Queen. Everything I ever read was comments from the band about writing a song for sports and having a sort of end of concert anthem for the band

http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1379

Mercury: "I was thinking about football when I wrote it. I wanted a participation song, something that the fans could latch on to. Of course, I've given it more theatrical subtlety than an ordinary football chant. I suppose it could also be construed as my version of "I Did It My Way." We have made it, and it certainly wasn't easy. No bed of roses as the song says. And it's still not easy."
