I thought I’d give my friends in the Frozen White North something to snicker about. This is my parking lot this morning. County offices, schools, and my law firm are all closed due to “dangerous weather conditions.“ I kid you not. I told my boss, “I walked to school in 5 feet of snow, uphill in both directions. I think our ancestors would be laughing at us right now.“

It's easy to laugh when we up north grew up with snow and cold as a part of life. For people who have never driven on icy roads it's a real danger. Now with self absorbed and distracted drivers a couple inches of snow will result in several hundred accidents, mainly fender benders with occasional injuries and a fatality or two.

In 1965, I was sent to Fort Jackson in South Carolina for Infantry training. The state got it's first snow storm since the late 1800s. Everything in the state came to a stop and we got a break from training.

Stay safe Toe. Even though you have experience with this kind of weather, all the idiots on the road with you don't.

I just checked our outdoor security camera at the house in Michigan.  About 6 inches of snow. Business as usual, other than school cancellations, but with remote learning, kids are still "in class" while on their computers (in our district anyways).

Here in Texas, everyone knows the bridges and overpasses will be icy in the type of weather we currently have. To that knowledge, they will maintain their speed until they approach  a icy patch, then apply the brakes firmly.
A few years ago, I watched this on TV and after sliding sideways over a bridge, the car left the roadway to the back yard of a house , and wiped out the single dog house situated there. Came to rest just shy of the patio.

The few cars I did see yesterday while out snow blowing, the drivers were on their cellphones. Visibility was poor, traction was ever poorer yet they somehow had to be on their phones. What made it even worse was that it rained during the night before it turned to snow so a layer of ice is under the snow. But Spring is only 7 weeks away!

Or as I call it, lots of new business.

I’m just staying home with the flannel jammies. I had to break out the packing tape and seal the doorways. I actually had a cold breeze blowing through the living room. Who needs weatherstripping? LOL. And thanks for the well wishes. You stay safe too.

I remember being down in ft Stewart GA, and we got two inches of snow. I was doing MP road duty at the time, and the provost Marshall had us put chains on the patrol vehicle tires. We drove around bouncing all over the place damaging road and vehicles alike. It was ridiculous. We all ended up back at the MP station because nobody was out doing anything, so we would only go somewhere if we were called. Even people who knew how to handle the weather weren't put because everything was closed and they had no place to go.

No snow by me, but with the heat wave that came through and melted a lot of snow followed by pur currnty freezing temps, the parking lot of my apartment complex has huge ice patches through it.

I just tried to order a pizza. Every pizza place on my list and apps are closed. Seriously folks. Uber, Favor, and DoorDash all advise “exceptionally long wait times.” Thank God I bought booze on the way home last night. Priorities.

That's funny. And sad at the same time.

That is all.

At 4:00 AM this morning, it was in the mid 30s. Actually a bit warmer than when I went to bed.

By 7:30, as I left the gym, freezing rain was pelting down and a stiff wind blowing out of the north.

Just a really nasty day...a day to just sit and watch the Olympics.

Finally, weather’s been warmer now here…
From 18 C to 21 C, a small but significant difference.

Two weeks ago we got a record 10" of snow.  It was 60 earlier that day.  We have 40-60 degree temp changes regularly.  In case you ever wanted to know why everyone from St. Louis has a fucking cold right now.

Going to Costa Rica with fam in March and it can't come soon enough.

My cat Neville is starting to shed his winter coat. Thinking spring can't be far behind.

Hey! If people can use fuzzy caterpillars to predict winter, I can use my cat to predict spring. :emot_laughing:

Too bad Bill Clinton’s not there.
Though he has been, last time was 2014

After a couple of days of temperatures above freezing that has melted much of the snow from the last storm, our area will be under a snow storm warning beginning tonight and ending late tomorrow evening. First rain. Then sleet, Then snow.
