Started around 10-10:30, about 4 hours ago.  It was light at first, now extremely heavy snow and about 4 inches now.  It’s supposed to snow into the early morning tomorrow.

This is already more than we got all last winter.

We got a little more than a dusting.   I heard 20 miles south got almost 2".

Dan was all anxious to fire up the snow blower.  I said, "Have fun."  He asked Siri what the temperature was.  With windchill it's 18 degrees.  Not that cold but colder than it has been since last year.  He grimaced a bit and said, "Well then, let's hope it melts tomorrow."

It switched to freezing rain the last couple hours.  My phone claims it's still snowing.

It's an icky mess out there, not the nice snow I wanted.  Tonight that icky mess will freeze, then be covered by more snow.  I'm sure shoveling will be joyful.

Might lose some branches on the evergreen and holly trees.  Some that I can see are hanging 6-8 feet lower than usual heavy with ice.

I like that too, makes things seem magical.  That is until you realize your dog fence is smashed nearly to the ground by broken limbs; that’s happened twice in different storm.  I just piled more brush at both places, and my German Shepherd thinks she can’t get out.  It’s mostly psychological for her; she could if she tried.  The couple time she did get out through an open gate, she ran to the front door to scratch to get back in.

Once on the DC beltway right after an ice storm, I came over a rise to see the Mormon Temple framed by ice covered trees.  It looked otherworldly like something out of Tolkien.

Ice storms are so beautiful to look at.  But they can be so destructive.

Minnesotans who love a white Christmas may get their wish. Winter storm warnings out for this afternoon and tonight. For Twin Cities, 6 - 8 inches of snow with high winds. West of the metro area will be serious travel. Wide open farm land, snow and wind will create blizzard conditions. This is likely followed by cold temps.

I was planning on going to Midnight Mass at my local parish tomorrow night. The church is about a 10 block walk from where I live.

Right now they're predicting that at that time the temperature will be close to 60 degrees, and there will be a monsoon-like rainstorm, with wind gusts as high as 70 mph and more than 2" of rain.

I'm currently re-thinking my plans...

I'm hoping we won't get hit too hard in the metro area. Map shows worst of the storm to be west of us.

Temps will take a huge drop. Mild 40 degrees now...very unseasonal. Will drop below zero by tomorrow morning.
