Sunny and 73° here in the beautiful Texas Hill Country.

Where are the hills?, says the Appalachian hillbilly.

Meanwhile it’s been in the 30s here at night, not that I mind.  Sweatshirt weather during the day with occasional spring showers.  And, we got wildflowers too; my favorite krokus bloomed back in March in my backyard the same place for the last 20 years.  First pic from my backyard, and the other I found on Imgur.

It’s the region where the Edwards Plateau meets the coastal plains.  Lots of limestone and granite outcroppings, caves, artisanal springs.

Heaven, as we call it.

Actually, we were thinking Montana this year.  Perhaps Arizona in 2022, as next year we’re supposed to go to Peru.

If you do go to Montana, make sure you get up to the northwest corner, by Glacier Lake, Whitefish and Kalispell.  Beautiful country, though you might not see any glaciers due to global warming.

Now there are the hills!

I grew up in a Y shaped valley surrounded by three mountains and hunted on all three, but the one closest in particular.  Used to head out the front door and be on the top of Haystack Mt in 20 minutes, the other two took much longer.  Now it takes me a bit longer to make that hike, maybe 45 minutes.  From the top of any of the 3 mountains you can see three different states.

This is Enchanted Rock, a 6 million year old, 550” tall, dome of granite.  It’s about 30 minutes from my house.

In 1841, Texas Ranger John C. Hayes took shelter at the summit from hostile Comanches. Alone, and badly outnumbered, he used his sniping skills to slowly decimate his opponents.  They ultimately fled.

We had a high here of 85F, it's cooling rapidly and is now a pleasant 78F.

Did a lot of weed wacking today and ran out of spool.  Still have about 1/2 the job to complete.  I'll pull out the lawn mower next weekend and get the rest done next weekend.

Planted some Zinnias, Morning Glories and Scarlet Runner beans last weekend.  They are coming up nicely.

The plan is 5-6 nights around Glacier NP.  Whitefish is on the list for an evening, Kalispell is a maybe.  Really, the only towns I had planned were Whitefish, Bozeman and Deadwood SD, otherwise other towns won’t get much more than a brief stop.  It’s a camping trip.

Theodore Roosevelt NP
Missouri Breaks
Glacier NP
Bozeman with a brief trip to Yellowstone NP
Black Hills SD including Mt Rushmore for my Peruvian, Deadwood, maybe Jewel Cave
Badlands NP

Snow on the way into work this morning.  Was yelling at winter to let it go.  So then I got rain on the way home.  Guess it's supposed to be rain all week.  Finally the proper April showers.

They promised us a major rain event, and cooler temperatures.  It all passed off to the north.  We are going to stay dry, with highs in the 90°’s for the rest of the week.

UGH, Dan says no.   But that is going to be a great trip.   Can't wait to hear about it.

Scientists are thinking that warm weather will kill the C-19 virus, or, at least, slow up the spread considerably.  Seems with the temps down Texas way and the southwest, the virus will be greatly reduced.   8)
