42° right now.  I turned the furnace on before bed.  I suspect it will kick on in the night, and we'll get that dusty, slightly smoky, "first furnace blast of the season" smell.  I love that smell. It signals the beginning of the cool season, which is only about 3.5 months in Texas.

OMG, I hate that smell, because as you say, "It signals the beginning of the cool season".

F*ing cold here.   Up to 30 mph wind gusts by 4pm today with a below freezing temps means  Detroit might be looking at single digit wind chill.   I want to cry right now.

Luckily my remote start on my car is fixed and I remembered to turn the heater up to 80 degrees before I shut the car off.   Now I just need to remember to start it 10 minutes before I'm ready to leave today.    Really, I want to cry right now.  I'm so sad.  :'(

I'm making Irish coffee.  Have some.  May not make things better, but couldn't make things worse.   :emot_kiss:

I went for a run this morning around 7:00 am, and it was 24 degrees. Right now (1:00 pm EST) it's up to a balmy 38 degrees.

Yes, once you get running you start to warm up, but it's those first 10 minutes that are the killer, lol.

Welcome to town!  Here for the CFR?

It isn't cold today, it is even above freezing - warmer than it has been since Halloween.  Right about average for this time of year.  Come back in January if you want real -25°C cold, complete with snow that squeals as its flakes shatter underfoot and floating ice crystals that glitter in the sun.

15° low.  21° High.  We made love twice this morning.  Had a huge breakfast with Eggs Benedict, then watched football all day, and made chicken and dumplings.  Nice day.

33°.  Coldest morning yet this fall, and the furnace finally kicked on and belched it’s first time of the season dusty burnt smell.  Sorry for all you Northerners.  We don’t get much cold in Texas.

Perfect weather here in Tucson.  80F days, dropping into the 50's at night.

Pretty much the same here in the Texas Hill Country.  My roses put out another full bloom.

35° and raining.  Freeze alert for tonight.  Meanwhile in Dallas, 240 miles northwest of me?  It’s 49 degrees.  How the fuck does this happen?

No snow here either.  It dropped to 37F last night, high is expected to reach 60F.  We should have highs of 74F for the weekend according to the forecast.

Forecast for the next several days is lows of 20s and possibly teens at night.  A little while ago I dropped off my travel trailer to have it winterized, so the residual water in the lines doesn’t freeze and crack my plumbing.

Growing up in California the idea that water left in the pipes can crack them sounds so strange.  Would it be cheaper to have indoor storage?

We just had the pool winterized which was $250.

Garden Hoses have to be blown out, or as I do it hold one end up high and lifting it as I walk across the yard draining it.   Even bringing them in the garages doesn't always save them from freezing, expanding and tearing open.

Irrigation sprinklers need blown out.  Just had that done in mid-October.  ($45)

My sister used to have a travel trailer also.  Outside storage was a $1/day ($30/month).   Inside storage would run about $250/month.     Blowing the lines out shouldn't be that expensive, there was only a few lines for the bathroom and kitchen area.

Just a part of living in the north and getting ready for the cold weather.

I heard about a friend waterbed freezing solid.  It was left in a cabin.  They found out when they went to use the cabin for a ski holiday.
