We had a "pre-monsoon" storm last night, with the thunder storms continuing through the area today. It is supposed to be back to being HOT on Sunday.
I wonder if this might mean an early monsoon? That would be fucking nice!
It's WAY too early for the monsoons. Historically they start between the 2nd and last week of July, and the worst heat is just before that. What I've observed is that you'll have about a solid week worth of afternoon/evening storms in Mexico about where I've marked that triggers the monsoons.
You'll get yours about 2 or 3 days before they make it all the way up to Phoenix. Your storms originate in Mexico, and the ones that hit Phoenix start just south of Florence.
'Course the El Niño and La Niña (?) this year will screw that all up, but that's a generalization over the 40+ years I was watching Arizona weather. I lost my links that show a full day cycle over North-Central Mexico, or I'd post 'em for you. That's your trigger.
I haven't seen any evidence of a La Niña yet, although they were predicting one to follow the El Niño.
edit: I won't tell ya it's 6:30pm and 92 in Dallas. That would be cruel.
