Went horseback riding this afternoon.
Took one of my better behaved mares out into the woods, had a great ride, not a person in sight the entire ride. It was fantastic.

Love,
Liz

Nice weather here today, but I hear Colorado got walloped by a huge blizzard.  Bad for people that live there, but the Rockies can sure use the resulting snow-pack.

Weather was stellar in Dallas today, after a bitch of a thunderstorm at 3AM that incinerated a few power poles down here near me.  However, THIS had been inbound for a few hours and hasn't weakened a bit:

There's two areas of mesocyclones that the chasers are blithely running in front of.  It's still headed dead towards the metroplex.  There's a line of tornado warnings all the way out in front of it, out to a line through Abilene and Lawton, OK, advancing steadily.  I'll be sleeping with my phone nearby tonight since I can't hear the sirens.  I've never heard my phone fire off the emergency alert; I suppose tonight might pop my cherry.

Texas has all the wild weather.

Might be because they are in the center of the country where the north winds rush down the Plain states and meet up with the warm, moist Gulf air.  But then, it just could be God's way of trying to make their politicians Democrats.... ;D

So I need to drive up to Oklahoma City to get blown?  Saddle up the truck, ma, we're headed NORTH!

The system that I posted last night kept intact all the way down here, but luckily it diverted slightly and ended up SOUTH of the metroplex.  There was still an active tornado watch in that system at sunrise.

Oh, fuck me.  San Antonio had baseball-sized hail earlier today.  It's our turn tomorrow.

edit: a day later and the line is about two hours away.  What looks like the most promising part for vortexes is headed my way.  It's just passed Abilene at the moment.  It doesn't look like it's worth spawning a twister, but that could all change in the next hour+.  We're under watch until midnight, but it looks like it'll clear the area by 11pm.

We failed.  As a test, we randomly asked 30 employees where they'd head in the building if we announced a tornado warning, everyone get to a storm shelter.  ONE and only one got it right.  A couple of them were hilariously wrong.  Yeah, the warehouse, with lots of big roll-up doors that will blow RIGHT IN, turning a million parts in the warehouse into a giant-sized chipper/shredder.  Ummm, the warehouse might not be a good spot to bunker-down, folks.

Update at 10pm: only one tornado watch up around Sherman, then nothing except for two more watch areas around Broken Arrow, OK.  The storm's minutes from hitting here and it's all good in Dallas; just rain, wind and lightning.

Mainly because I want to make my 300th post before I turn to other things, I will report that the spring weather has been seasonably cool of late here in NH, with a bit of April snow in the mountains a week or so ago. Back when I was young and strong, this would be the time of year when things would really start swinging up in Tuckerman's Ravine. Been a while since I did that.

For some reason the local forsythia decided to skip blooming this year.

Only in the last day or two have the blossoms emerged on the crabapple trees, the  mountain ash, and azalea bushes; and the oaks and maples now seem finally to be pushing out leaves. We have lilac blossoms starting to show, which normally come out later in the  month of May. The only seventy degree weather I've seen here was back one day in January, but all the other days have yet to go past the 60's.

Same for Michigan, except our forsythia did bloom.  Oaks and maple buds are just now showing in the last few days.    61 for a couple days and 72 forecasted for Mothers Day.

Where oh where are the 80's?

:)
