My mom gave me a note and took me out of high school a half day early on Wednesday, May 25 1977 so we could head to the Cine Capri theater in Phoenix to see the opening of Star Wars at around 2pm.  The theater was damned near empty 'cos it was a mid-week opening, and nobody had heard of Star Wars... yet.  We had the best seats in the house.  Compared to the other sci-fi movies of that era, Star Wars was fantastic!

Fond memories...  :D

The Cine Capri theater had it's first sell-out crowd that Friday, and that continued for the next year+.  It's the longest-running show they ever held.  Until IMAX came along, the Cine Capri had the biggest screen in Phoenix, and was the first place in AZ to have Dolby 6-track audio.  It's long since been demolished and rebuilt in Scottsdale.

Back then, movies took weeks to get to provincial towns. My parents took us on a forty mile surprise trip to see Star Wars two weeks before it got to my home town.

My mother fell asleep just as they started the trench run...

Well, she's not Mexican?  That's about all it means to me.

I was a big fan of the franchise growing up, but then again, I was like 6-to-10 when the original ones came out.  I like hard science fiction better than fairy tales in space now, I guess I outgrew it?

Rey bothers me.  I like her character, but honestly she should have grown up looking like somewhere between speedball strawberry, and Teriyaki Turkey Slim Jim the way she grew up.  Not drinking blue milk on a moisture farm, but I bet you could drop her off at the equator on Arrakis, and she'd be just fine.

I kinda like that they age her up, and add a little figure in the fanporn, but Daisy Riddley looks too good for that role.  She shoudl be weathered, so no matter how well she plays the role, unless she pulls a Therone (Like she did in Monster) I'm just not going to be able to suspend my disbelief.  She used to scrap the ruins of star destroyers, with home-made tools. 

She should at least have some callouses, if not scars.
