About the time PH was drinking his bourbon and coke, I was consuming dry red wine. First was a Mexican wine -- L.A. Cetto Termpranillo. Second was Casillero del Diablo Cab Sauv from Chile. Both very good and quite inexpensive when compared to prices in the US or Canada. The Tempranillo (it's the variety of grape used) costs $155mxn or about $10.00 cdn. Vodka and orange juice. A favorite. It was the first drink I had. I was eighteen and went to a bar with some older friends. It was called "The Lakeview Lounge". They didn't care about ID which was funny, because it was a cop bar. I got drunk and headed down the road. There were bright lights flashing behind me. I pulled over and my friend came to my window. "Turn on your lights," he said and went back to his car. I guess it saved me.

I was making Old Fashioeneds last night.  Finishing off a bottle of Whistle Pig.   I've upped the bourbon and lowered the simple syrup and I enjoy it much more.   
2-1/2 oz bourbon
1/2 simple syrup
3 dashes bitters

Might try 3 oz to 1/2 oz tonight.  Trying to zero in on perfection. 
Opening a new bottle of cask strength Makers tonight. In the 113 proof range,
