Voodoo Ranger IPA, 9.5% ABV. Wish I had more. I’ve been trying not to keep a lot of booze on hand, to discourage having to much fun on school nights.

Making my response here instead of the "last thing you watched" topic.

The question you didn't answer was how many of those bottles do you have in your collection? :emot_laughing: :emot_kiss:

I don't like to call it a collection. Most people do because if they get something good, they won't drink it. They use it as a showpiece.  There is not a bottle in my cupboards that I would hesitate to open. I just need the right occasion in order to open a better bottle.  But I'm certainly not opening a hard to find bottle at a Xmas party with 40 people at it. Those type bottles I will open with more intimate company to create a memory.  Like a fellow bourbon loving friend around a campfire or small gathering.

Instead of calling them my "collection", I just refer to them as "my bottles".  Sorry if I come across strange on this response, but it kind of irks me when people buy them just to hide them away.  It just makes it harder to get a bottle if everyone does that.  But then again, it's their money, so who am I to say anything.
And Dan calls my bottles my "stockpile".

To your question though...
Buffalo Trace I have had many times. It's good, and something I enjoy having on occasion. I do not have any at this time.
As for Weller, there are a few different bottles, I have had them all in my possession at one time or another.  I currently have an opened bottle of Antique 107 and a bottle of Full Proof.
When watching the show the other night, I swear I saw Benchmark, but I could be wrong. It, along with the two above, are all produced by the Buffalo Trace Distillery.  Dan and I have done two different tours at this distillery.  Benchmark, because of it's lesser cost, is a bourbon I used to use as a mixer - something to make my Ol Fashioneds with, instead of using more expensive stuff.

I will stand corrected about calling your bottles a collection. Do you consider it somewhat of a hobby tho'. I read about you making tours of distilleries and stopping at liquor stores in Kentucky looking for hard to find bottles. Sounds like a hobby to me. The fact that you drink your finds as opposed to putting them on shelf would take it out of the realm of a collection.

Hobby?  Sure.  I'm okay with calling it that.  It's something that I enjoy.

We hit the distilleries as a thing to do during our travels.  Kentucky is centrally located for us when leaving Michigan so it's a nice break from the road. They're all interesting in their own way, much like a zoo, a museum, the National Parks or even botanical gardens.  I'm not a beer person like MissB, but we've even gone to a few beer distillery tours including the Budweiser Distillery in St Louis.   These tours are very interesting whether you're a fan of beer or not.

As for going into stores to find bottles.  I like to do it in every state because not all bourbons are distributed to Michigan.  And in Kentucky at exit 11 off of I-75 is a place called The Bourbon Barn.  To me it's like a 7 year old walking into a toy store.

Back to the 'Collection' comment.  Some of the bottles I have are bottles that my brother in law had. He collected.  He passed away without ever trying some.  That saddens me.  He acquired them because he knew they were hard to get, or heard they were good, but never got to enjoy them. With losing my sister & brother-in-law law at early ages, along with my own health issues, I know life is precious and it could come to an abrupt end at any moment, so I am going to enjoy it now.  Those bottles that he had collected I have actually invited his bourbon drinking friends over to share with them and share memories of Kevin and Karen.   Only two bottles remain unopened from his collection. One I plan to open at the little ones wedding, whenever that may be 10 years or more down the road.  One will be at his nieces wedding in 2024. She actually liked coming over when Kevin would have tastings and he turned her into a bourbon lover. .

Edit....and my apologies for my "collection" post (two posts up). I reread it and think some might interpret it as catty or bitchy.  That was not my intent and apologize to MS if it came across that way.

I have to ask our resident expert what she thinks about this one. A friend of mine was posting photos on social media and bragging about what a great treat this is. I’m sure you’ve heard of it. What are your thoughts?

Ol' Smokey Tennessee moonshine apple pie, with a splash of zero sugar Sprite. Getting a little pregame thing going before heading out for the night.

Coopers original pale ale.

Probably followed by a glass of Penfold's Shiraz, or two (not Penfold's Grange, but maybe some day...), to accompany the steak, mash and greens.

The Willie. A smoked Manhattan served at Lonesome Dove Steakhouse.  Deliciously decadent. Better be, with a $19 price tag.

I received a smoker for drinks for my bday.  I need to use it more.

Blade and Bow earlier tonight.  Water now.

I need a good old fashioned
I had the best Bloody Mary at at breakfast this morning.  Had to call the bartender over to our table to find out what the mix was.  It was Zing Zang.   Guess what we picked up at the store on the way home.  A:Zing Zang and some pickle spears.

Yesterday was a variety of Cabernet Sauvignon wines (different vineyards) and a little bit of Mezcal.

Today -- coffee. Black. And lots of it.

That is all.

I was given a bottle of Garrison Brothers “Texas Bourbon” for Christmas.

Garrison Brothers Distillery is a distillery in Hye, Texas (historic town, LBJ’s mail was delivered by its postmaster). The distillery produces Texas Straight Bourbon, as well as some experimental variants. In 2006, the distillery was granted the first stiller's permit for bourbon outside of Kentucky and Tennessee, which makes it the oldest legal bourbon distillery in Texas.

I guess I’m a bit of a snob, because I only consider whiskey from Kentucky to be bourbon. Everything else is whiskey. It’s good, but I think calling it bourbon is just a bit much.

The water in Kentucky is hard — meaning, it has a high pH and a high proportion of minerals, including calcium and magnesium. These elements are optimal for distilling. The yeast in bourbon loves those minerals. They aid the fermentation process and create the distinctive, crisp Kentucky bourbon.

The Texas hill country also has limestone water. I just don’t know how it compares to Kentucky’s.

Woo 639 for your knowledge on KY water and it's influence on the production of bourbon.
A recent magazine article listed three bourbons from Texas and I've got my eye on the lookout for:  Garrison, TX, and Balcones.

This is the geology of the Texas Hill Country. The Edwards Plateau, an ancient limestone formation that is perforated by water channels and natural springs. So plenty of limestone water available for making bourbon.

So you see the distilleries are concentrated in that area.

Longbranch is something I enjoy on occasion.  I know it's Wild Turkey, but the mesquite finish gives it a nice twist. Thank you Mathew McConaughey for your Texas input.

Thought it was Guineas at first glance. A favorite of mine.  Probably my most favorite of beers.

I have Guinness in my fridge, but not really a fan. Haha I'm a fan of stouts and porters in general tho.
