If it hadn't been planned as a micro-budget horror-comedy, it would have fallen on it's face.  The comedy angle was it's only saving grace.  This one belongs in the Troma portfolio...  ;D  Dunno how they missed funding it!

$35 budget down the drain.

Dr. Strange

Fantastic.  Saw it in 3D and it was worth the extra $$.  Wife who isn't even a sci-fi person said she was surprised that she liked it.

Siege of Jadotville.

Based on a true story.  In the early 1960s, the Congo was being fought over by the super powers because of the vast amount of uranium being mined in the province of Katanga.

The United Nations sent in a company of solders from Ireland because Ireland had never been an aggressor in any other country's dispute. The Irish company was literally abandoned by the UN against a French mercenary-led army of one-thousand.  After putting up a valiant fight, where no Irish soldier was killed, they surrendered and after being imprisoned for one month, they were released and sent home.

Upon arriving home, and due to the political nature of the time, they were treated like cowards.  It was not until recently that their heroics were recognized.

Anyone seen the latest Minions movie?

Whenever I'm back home for a visit, I always watch a bunch of movies with my nephews, both in theaters and on DVD/streaming.

Over Christmas I watched this with them (and it was probably the 3rd or 4th time they'd seen it), and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the two Despicable Me movies. This is basically an "origin story," with Minions ending at the point where the first Despicable Me movie begins. It's filled with the wacky hijinks, frenetic tomfoolery, and 3 Stooges-like slapstick that make the minions so lovable in the two Despicable Me movies.

Thank you.  I was invited to go and see it.

I just watched Allied, starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard.

Great performances by the actors, but the plot did not make sense.

La La Land

Opened up the newspaper today and there was Oscar discussions.    With La La Land winning a bunch of Golden Globes, I thought we should go see it.    So, we just got back an hour ago and it was fantastic.    The story was wonderful.   I think we should see La La Land winning some golden statues tonight.

Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling were wonderful together.

Watching the Red Carpet on E! right now.   I'm wearing JCPenney full length flannel pj's, and a Meroma brand v-neck Tshirt from Target.

Oh, and I just discovered that Ryan Goslings piano playing, was actually performed by him.  No stunt double.    He's pretty good.   Damn good.    Impressed.   I never knew.   I look at him in a whole new way now.   Very talented.   In fact, I'll probably dream about him tonight.   Dream that we meet at a fancy party, and he falls in love with me, and we have two kids, a boy and a girl.  We name the boy Ryan Jr, and our daughter Kate.  And we live happily ever after.

Going to have to go see "Moonlight".    I hadn't heard of it before last night.

I just saw "Moonlight".  I figured I ought to see it because it won the Academy Award for Best Picture.  It reminded me a lot of "Lost in Translation."  Neither movie really had a plot in the classic sense, but were rather movies about the human condition.

Of course Moonlight was more ambitious, seeking to convey an understanding of black youth and the challenges of growing up.

I saw this movie yesterday.  I believe that Portman really nailed the essence of Jackie Kennedy, both as a debutante and historian.

Quick Google search:
"A searing and intimate portrait of one of the most important and tragic moments in American history, seen through the eyes of the iconic First Lady, then Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. JACKIE places us in her world during the days immediately following her husband's assassination. Known for her extraordinary dignity and poise, here we see a psychological portrait of the First Lady as she struggles to maintain her husband's legacy and the world of "Camelot" that they created and loved so well."

One week after JFK's assassination Jackie granted an interview to a reporter that later published in life magazine.  I had no idea that it was this story that spun the myth of the Kennedy administration as a modern day Camelot.

I enjoyed the movie, but I'm glad I didn't pay for it.  It almost felt too intimate, like I was eavesdropping where I shouldn't.  Also, I'm not sure how much of it really happened.  I was only three years old then.  But I did get to listen to my SO tell me conspiracy theories all through the movie.

"Did you know one guy reportedly witnessed Johnson throatfucking Kennedy's corpse?"

NO NO NO NO NO!  I don't want to hear that!
