I saw the original "Carrie" and thought it was good for a horror story.

LOL.....After reading the above about Carrie and everything wrong with it.
I had a good laugh, because, every movie has something wrong in it (not just Carrie)
But I liked how you singled just that movie out.
Love,
Liz

These are great! I especially liked the one featuring "The Blues Brothers."

The fun thing about the Blues Brothers was to name all the places that were used in the filming of the movie.  Of course, Sweet Home Chicago, sung by them, is still a classic.

So lets get back to what this thread is supposed to be, MOVIE REVIEWS BY MEMBERS

Two films I have seen in the last week:
12 Years A Slave.
I kept hearing this was a film worthy of joining the great unforgettables. But although iit is indeed a harrowing and ultimately poignant account of a free man kidnapped into slavery in the south, for me it didn't quite make the unforgettables and only time will tell if it acquires the status it obviously aspires to.
 :emot_thmbsup: :emot_thmbsup:

The Wolf Of Wall Street.

At nearly three hours long, you might be forgiven in thinking there might be lid drooping moments while munching your popcorn, but. . . . no!
There wasn't time for popcorn it was a wild, frantic ride of sex, outrageous office parties and gigantic wealth accumulation!
Leonardo Dicaprio, who despite his aspirations hasn't really put in many convincing performances, but this was one, he was almost mesmerising and completely convincing,
A great 3 hours and recommended by Grm.

We were discussing sequels better than originals. I just went along with the thread hijacking. ;-)

Frozen.

Disney movie, I should have known better, because I never liked Disney, but the trailer looked quite funny and the kids wanted to see it. All in all not completely horrible. There were some really funny scenes with the snowman, BUT.... Disney, for crying out loud, MUSICAL??? Musicals are SO bloody passé. Did you really have to add two fucking princesses going musical for twenty minutes?? I'm *allergic* to musicals!! Nevertheless I would endure it for the kids. However when I looked down at my son when the 'horror' started, my heart jumped with pride. There was my 5-year-old, covering his ears with an angry look on his face. "You don't like the singing, sweety?" "Mommy, it's baaaaad!". I am SO proud, my son inherited my musical allergy!  ;D

I whole heartedly agree on both accounts, I now consider The Wolf of Wall Street as one of my top ten films ever. I really would love Leonardo to get the Oscar for his outstanding performance.

I have yet to see Dallas Buyers Club so it's slightly possible he could be trumped by Matthew McConaughey I'll wait and see.

*Spoiler Free Review*

Saw "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" the 2ND film for Captain America and the 3rd film in Marvel's Phase 2 films before next year's "Avengers: Age of Ultron". Captain Steve Rogers aka Captain America (Chris Evans) is back, living in Washington, D.C. and working for S.H.I.E.L.D., he's partnered with Natasha Romanoff aka The Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) who go out on missions for S.H.I.E.L.D. They are sent to a ship to break up a hostage situation, but during the battle with the Pirates who have taken the ship, Steve Rogers learns Natasha was downloading vital secret information on the ship's computer without being let in on it by her or Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Rogers confronts Fury who tells him that SHIELD has a new plan, "Project Insight", to keep "in line" potential problem people around the world by creating new state of the art Helicarriers with enough firepower and high tech to take out potential threats, which offends Rogers stating that the punishment should come after they are found guilty for their crime(s). Fury tells Rogers that they must do what is necessary to keep them in line, Rogers tells Fury that he is wrong and that S.H.I.E.L.D. along with the Government is spreading fear. Later, Nick Fury is attacked on the road by an unknown figure who has a bionic left arm which is discovered to be a "Ghost Assassin" known as The Winter Soldier and Captain America will do all he can to stop The Winter Soldier and find out what is really going on behind S.H.I.E.L.D.'s closed doors when Rogers refuses to tell senior S.H.I.E.L.D. official Alexander Pierce (Robert Redford) what Fury told him the night he was attacked by the Winter Soldier.

I really liked the new Captain America, not only is it a great Comic Book film, but also plays out like a Political Spy Thriller, like a Tom Clancy movie/novel but set in the Marvel Universe, but more intense which will leave you on the edge of your seat. The plot reveals were VERY shocking indeed was not expecting what I found out about S.H.I.E.L.D.! Also stay for the movie's credits for two reasons: One scene that will lead into Avengers: Age of Ultron (shown in the credits) and a scene that closes the film at the very end of the credits. Film also stars, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson aka Falcon, Sebastian Stan as The Winter Soldier, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter aka Agent 13 and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter.

I just saw Shatner's World.  Not really a movie but a ideologue by Bill Shatner (Captain Kirk) on his life and accomplishments.  I learned a lot about him that I did not know before and actually like him a little better now.  But if you are not a huge Star Trek or Shatner fan don't bother.

Two words:  BAD GRAMPA!

I watched the first 15 minutes and then turned it off.  Hope I never get that "bad".  8)

I saw Guardians of the Galaxy in the cinema last week. It's well worth the price of admission. It was simply massively entertaining and the visuals were stunning. I like that the Marvel movie universe is branching out too.

I saw it too, and I agree that it's "massively entertaining."

I'm decidedly not a fan of science fiction, fantasy, or -- especially! -- superhero movies, but I saw it with my nephews, and surprised myself with how much I enjoyed it. It's also very funny, and the late 70s/early 80s soundtrack added to the fun.
