Sat down last night and watch "Almost Famous" I thought it was pretty good.
Sorry Guys.....No Monster's In It.
Good Music though....

Very good film in my dvd collection, great performance by a young Patrick Fugit. One of my favourite movie lines by Lester Bangs (Philip Seymour Hoffman,)
"You'll meet them all again on their long journey to the middle."

GRM....
If you get a chance, buy a copy of the movie "Indian Summer"....it's old but a great movie, well worth having in your collection.
It's about summer camp...that all I'm going to say (not a horror story).

Love,
Liz

YES! It really was a pretty good movie for the most part. I can't knock it on any level. I've just seen to many movies to be really surprised anymore.

That's what I liked about the Cabin in the Woods. It teases you with conventional scenes that have you thinking "ok well I know what's gonna happen here" and then smacks you in the face for being a presumptuous asshole by adding another twist.

Saw Cabin In The Woods a while back due to the comments made here. Good movie for a Netflix watch. The last half of the movie had a nice twist. Thanks GB for talking about it. Would never had picked it otherwise

Took the kids to see "the conjuring" a while back. Kids have been following the Warrens for years so had to see this. We all felt it was a great scary movie. If you believe this type of stuff is real, then you will love this movie. have to stay for the end credits, they show pictures of the real family involved with the story

I watched "Argo" last night, and I think the best way to describe my response is I just didn't get it.

There have been many movies made based on historical events where viewers know the outcome, yet that fact doesn't distract from that movie being compelling, dramatic, and highly entertaining. Movies like "Apollo 13" and "Lincoln" spring immediately to mind. But in this case, I didn't find Argo to be compelling or suspenseful. I found it a let down.

I also found it to be aggressively propagandistic. Especially the voice-over at the end by Jimmy Carter (in the present day).

Max Manus

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/max_manus_man_of_war/

The Norwegian historical crusader Max Manus -- who lived from 1914 to 1996 -- retains household name status among Scandinavians for his acts of daunting courage during the Second World War, but curiously, few non-historians outside of Northern Europe have heard of him. This adventure epic from co-directors Joachim Roenning and Espen Sandberg (Bandidas) represents the first mainstream effort to dramatize Manus' efforts in feature form with elaborate re-creations of his heroic exploits.

This is a decent movie about Nazi-occupied Norway. Let's face it, NOBODY talks about Norway when we think of WWII. This gives an insight as to what went on and how the Norwegians fought the Nazis on their own soil. And yes, the vast part of the film is in Norwegian, with English subtitles. Get over it. LOL

I have no issues with movies with subtitles in them. As a matter of fact, I liked the Swedish version of "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" way better than the American version.

I also now know that it greatly downplayed Canada's overwhelming presence in achieving the extraction... in the movie they look like minor players...

Great point, that's certainly true.

I think I waited too long to watch this movie. After near-unanimous raves -- and both Best Picture and Best Director nominations -- I was expecting something less flimsy.

Elysium

I had fairly low expectations going into this one since I wasn't a huge fan of District 9 (and yes, I know I'm in the minority there) but I really enjoyed it. The movie is lacking characterisation to the point where I found myself just not caring about the protagonist but it's visually stunning, both in design and execution, and that made it worth the price of admission for me. Unlike the best sci-fi, the setting does not fully make sense but it is very interesting. I would recommend to genre fans for sure but it's worth a watch regardless.
yeah the 19 minute transition time from earth surface to Elysium is a bit far fetched.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count, and those who can't.

Prisoners

It's been a while since I actually wanted to spend money on going to the cinema, the review for Prisoners caught me, I had briefly seen a TV advert for it, but I wasn't paying too much attention so apart from knowing Jake Gyllenhaal & Hugh Jackman were in it, I knew nothing. I love thrillers, so the review had me.

The film at 2hrs 26 mins didn't let me down. Hugh Jackman was amazing, Jake Gyllenhaal too. When you think you have it sussed something else happens, the perfect thriller, gripping, intense, thought provoking..... what would you do in their situation.

I highly recommend this, if you like your thrillers, that's really all I can say without ruining it, of course.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty...

needs to stay a secret.

I had a 10 minute convo with my mom explaining to her that it did indeed suck and had nothing to do with Al Capone.

Cloud Atlas.

I don't understand I never heard of this movie before, because it was simply EPIC. The first hour and a half might be difficult to get through because it's unclear at first how the storylines are linked and what exactly the movie is trying to convey, but please bear with the film, it's definitely worth it. I had never seen anything like it and must say the acting is sublime except for Halle Berry, who isn't bad but just always plays, well, Halle Berry. The make-up is stunning and the storyline transitions are clever. Definitely recommend it.

Helped push Ride Along to #1 over the weekend. I had read reviews about it prior and they were not good. Ignore them. If you like comedies, Kevin Hart or Ice Cube, you will enjoy the movie. Noting new to see, just a funny movie.

My thoughts on the 2013 re-make of Carrie which starred Chloe Grace Moretz, Julianne Moore, Gabriella Wilde, Ansel Elgort, Portia Doubleday and Judy Greer. Well a lot of people were thinking after seeing the film that it copies the 1976 film back to back...not really true as it follows the same concept of the original story: Carrie White is a plain Jane girl who is tormented at school by her peers, gets her period, finds out she has telekinesis, gets invited to The Prom, blood dropped on her, she gets her revenge, kills herself and her Mother in the end. In this update the film has a lot of updates to the story with the use of smartphones,  the mention and use of the Internet, video screens used at the Prom, the clothing, the way kids talk and act. There are also some slight character changes in the film as opposed to the 1976 film: Carrie in this seems to accept her powers more as a great gift then as something she does not understand, but accepts it. Margret White (Carrie's Mom) is a red head, she self mutilates herself when she's upset, she's working as a Seamstress and does not go door to door promoting her Religion. Sue Snell in this is a blonde haired girl who's very tall and not a short brown haired girl with curls, Chris Hargensen goes from a blonde bitch to a dark haired bitch, the Principal in this is black and not white, there's no P.J. Soles type girl in this except there was one girl who wore a cap like her, but she had very little to no dialog in this film. Miss. Desjardin, the Gym Teacher is younger and does not die in this one. Some scenes were changed: the start of the film begins with Carrie's birth which was a bit of a shock, but a nice change. The girls in Gym class still play Volleyball, but this time in a pool, shower scene is there, but changed with no nudity (Chloe Grace Moretz was 15 when this was filmed so there would be no signs of nudity), like mentioned before there were a lot of modern  additions made to the film, plus Carrie seemed more insane like as she killed with her breathing deeply as she stalked and killed her prey. Made me think of Michael Myers sallow breathing in his mask in the 78 Halloween.

I would not say this version of Carrie was perfect just different in it's own way, music was even better too and the film seemed like it was filmed better than how the 1976 version looked. Not so dark in the White's home and not so bright outside from too much sunlight. Ending was even very different with the addition of a Court questioning Sue Snell about the Prom and Carrie, no jump scare at all either. The Blu-Ray however has an alternate ending that was too shocking for cinemas and I MEAN shocking!

I saw the original "Carrie" and thought it was good for a horror story.
I never understood why they "needed" or "wanted" to do a remake of it.
it wasn't really necessary to do a remake at all.
(except for maybe make more money).
It's kinda like doing a remake of Casablanca. Why bother, The original is fine, a remake would add nothing to it. by the way the TCN colorized Casablanca really sucks,
I like it much better in B&W.
Just saying.

Liz
