Quentin Tarantino did it again!

A 2hr & 30 something mins running time and I was gripped... a little slow at the top of the second act (that was when I realized just how important Sally Menke was to QTs past films) but other than that.... HOLY FUCKBALLS!

Seriously, I could watch Christoph Waltz read a telephone book, and be totes into it!

If you enjoy QT's film making and style... see Django.

Watched Murder In the First last night. Was a good movie but a little disappointed that it was more fiction than fact

And a real good read about the real Henri Young

Saw "Now Is Good" a British/Warner Brothers film which is an adaptation of the 2007 novel "Before I Die" by Jenny Downham. The film stars Dakota Fanning as the main character Tessa, who has been battling leukaemia for four years only to give up on her treatment accepting her death and trying to live her last days with a "list" of things she wants to do before she dies, Jeremy Irvine plays Adam, Tessa's love interest and her next door neighbor who lives with his Mother and tries to help Tessa enjoy her last months alive, Paddy Considine plays Tessa's Father who tries to struggle with his Daughter's illness and reluctance to continue her treatment, plus trying to discourage her from doing her "list" and forbid her love for Adam despite her rebellion. Cast also includes Olivia Williams as Tessa's Mother and Kaya Scodelario who plays Tessa's friend, Zoey who tries to help her with her list until she learns of a unplanned pregnancy. Great acting came from Fanning once again from this Drama, only problems I had with the film was the British dialog is hard to follow at times, but it is still an easy story to follow. The reasoning behind Tessa giving up on her treatments was not really explained enough, just that she gave up and no one really seriously fights her to stop her (in reality her Parents could have used the Law and the Judicial system to make her continue since she was minor, but this is a film based on a fictional tale, but still it makes no sense to just let her simply die). It starts off slow, but picks up after some time, but in the end it becomes really dramatic and sad watching a teenage girl simply dying scene after scene. Even though I am a guy it really brought me to tears watching this girl suffering. It was also hard to watch at times knowing that I actually had a family member die from leukaemia, too. I do give a special hats off to the make-up artists who did a really believable job with Dakota's make-up making her look like an actual girl with leukaemia. Another thing to watch out for in watching this film is the mostly British cast (which were good), but you are watching people you don't know (unless you live in England) only well known big name in this was Dakota Fanning. If I have to give it a rating I'd give it 3 or 2 out of 5 stars.

So what you're saying is you give it 2 1/2 out of 5 stars. :) It sounds like a really good dramatic movie, one we all should see. Thanks for the review!

That or 3, just for Dakota's acting and that it was a decent story. It wasn't Oscar worthy, but its OK.

Saw "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" back on Saturday which stars Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye from The Avengers) and Gemma Arterton (from Clash of the Titans remake and Quantum of Solace) as the famous fairy tale brother and sister, Hansel and Gretel, who after finding a house made of candy and killed the Witch who wanted to eat them, they become Witch Hunters trying to rid the world of them and save any lost child they have taken. They are on a mission to find some lost children from a small town in Germany only to be confronted by a Witch (played by Famke Janssen) and her sisters who plan on sacrificing the children for a ritual. I really enjoyed this one, it was on the same vain as the film "Van Helsing" with Hugh Jackman, but much darker, more violent and more tongue-in-cheek humor. I was really impressed with the story and the characters in the film how they turned the classic tale and made a new story with it. The make-up and specail effects were out of this world! Only problem I had with this one was not the film itself, but the theatre where I saw it. They only have 1 showing of the movie in 2-D and the rest of the showings are in 3-D. I do not care for the new 3-D craze and I find it annoying, plus insulting that I, my cousin and many other movie goers had to wait in order to see the 2-D version and the showing is only at 3 in the afternoon. Hopefully this is not a problem for anyone else who wants to see the 2-D version over the 3-D version! Bottom line do go see this film it was worth it!

Need to catch up on my movie reviews so here goes:

A Good Day To Die Hard: Bruce Willis back again as John McClane, tough, wise cracking NYC Detective now traveling to Russia to check on his estranged son, Jack McClane (Jai Courtney) who is caught up in a political scandal that dates back to the Cold War era of Soviet Russia. John goes to Russia to help is son only to find out it is far worse than what it seems which may lead to a Nuclear attack inside Moscow. I would say the cast was great with Bruce, only problem I had it didn't seem like a "Die Hard" movie, it was more like a typical Bruce Willis action film with the "Die Hard" name slapped on it. To me it felt like Bruce took a back seat to Jai Courtney's character. This one could have been a lot better.

OZ, The Great And Powerful:  A new twist on a old classic fairy tale which stars James Franco as Oscar "Oz" Diggs, a con man, magician and womanizer who has run into bad luck in Kansas when a performance goes sour for the Carnival he works for, his girlfriend is leaving to marry another "good man" and he's being hunted by a jilted lover's husband. During an impending storm, Oz takes off in a hot air balloon only to have the hot air balloon get caught in a tornado that sends him away landing him in the magical, mystical land of OZ where he meets Theodora (Mila Kunis) a beautiful Witch who tells him of a prophecy of a Wizard falling from the sky to come free OZ from the Wicked Witch. He goes with her to the Emerald City, along the way they meet a flying Monkey, Finley (Zach Braff) and they also meet Theodora's older sister, Evanora (Rachel Weisz) who also tells Oscar of his destiny to become the Ruler of Oz. Oscar decides if he wants to be rich and famous he and Finely must go to kill the Wicked Witch of Oz only to find out the truth of what is going on in OZ. Michelle Williams also stars as Glinda and Joey King as China Girl. I really liked this one,it was like watching the classic Wizard of Oz only much better with tons of special effects, great costumes, lots of great actors and not drowned out by a HUGE musical number (though I do like Somewhere Over The Rainbow from the classic Oz movie). This here tells the tale of how Oz became Oz, became the ruler and how the Wicked Witches came into power in Oz! Go see it, I saw it twice it was worth it!

Incendiary A British film from 2009, starring Michelle Williams as a Mother of a 4 year old son, whom she loves dearly and her bomb-disposal officer husband with whom she has a so-so marriage, who goes off to have a one night stand with a neighbor across the street a newspaper writer (Ewan McGregor). One day her husband and son go to a football match and the Mother sees her lover again only to witness a terrorist attack at the stadium where her son and husband are at. After their deaths, she tries to cope with the loss of them, especially her son whom she seemed more attached to. Blaming her affair on their deaths, her lover tries to investigate the attack while her late husband's boss tries to comfort her. What happens is that the truth behind the attack is revealed which causes a terrible wave of emotions that effects the Mother for the rest of the film. Good story here, very sad at times, but lots of great acting especially from Michelle Williams who even outshines her former lover, the late great, Heath Ledger! Worth seeing this one!

The Merry Gentleman A film from 2009, by Michael Keaton which stars Keaton as a hit man, Frank Logan who has been doing jobs during Christmas time in Chicago to wind up in an unlikely relationship with a abused woman from a bad marriage, Kate Frazier (Kelly Macdonald) whom he helped one night at her Apartment. Kate does not know that Frank was to kill her because she witnessed his last job,but Frank has a change of heart and decides to have a relationship with her. A very touching drama from Michael Keaton, I really liked his and Kelly's performances here and the story makes you wonder what will happen next. Worth seeing especially if you are a fan of Michael Keaton.

There's so many movies out there....I'm a terrible movie critic.
I'm sure that many of us will agree on some movies, and all of us will disagree on other movies. Usually what I like to do is "wait" and buy the movie(s) that I like when they come out on DVD. I'm sure if I mention the movie "After Earth" someone will say something about it (both good and bad). One of my most favorite movies (and it's an old one) out of DVD now is, "LadyHawke" with Rutger Hauer (same bad guy in Bladerunner). I really like this movie, others I'm sure will tear it apart and even me for liking it.
But....Like I said, I'm a terrible movie critic.
Love,
Liz

Took the kids and a few of their friends to see The Purge last night. First I want to say that I was very happy in how much the movie theater seemed to care that 5 under 18 people were going to see an R rated movie and asked me several times that I was going with them and staying for the movie.

Th movie itself was pretty good with a nice pace. Short movie at just under an hour and half.  Some, to me, surprises in it but nothing that probably has not been done before. I would recommend this to others if you enjoy movies like Straw Dogs. This was different but did have the same type of feel at times.

Two movies this week.
After Earth, starring Will Smith, story by Will Smith, co starring Will Smith's son.
Astronaut ranger and son crash land on Earth eons after it was abandoned by men, son races against time and a hostile environment to locate distress beacon and save his badly injured father.
Not bad Will Smith.
2/5

Man of Steel, the latest Superman outing.
I liked the look of the trailers and its certainly cracks along at a pace and there are plenty of cool CGI, but once you have seen one building destroyed one after the other by super combatants, it becomes a bit tedious, hats off to the artists who created all this broken concrete but its no substitute for a good script.

YES! It really was a pretty good movie for the most part. I can't knock it on any level. I've just seen to many movies to be really surprised anymore.

On the theme of zombies, World War Z, epic zombie fest, it was OK, but the director shot with an annoying blurry image which did not increase its entertainment value, a bit disappointing in 3D. 5/10

I can understand what you mean about the CGI, I thought the overall film was enjoyable, it was like watching a grown up version of the original, what is now almost a comedy when you watch it. Henry Cavill is pleasing to the eye for the ladies. Will I go to the sequel? Yes.
