I watched the Sherlock Holmes movie.  Somehow it seemed flat, like there was no real chemistry.  Anyone else get that?

I'm going to watch the "Book of Ely" tonight.

Sherlock Holmes = Not as great as I hoped... I love Robert Downey Jr. but it lacked sizzle... very little chemistry between the stars.

I agree... and I really liked the pace... slow yet riveting. I also am looking forward to "Book Of Eli". Saw the last Cohen Bros. film tonight, "A Serious Man" Wow! If Kafka ever wrote a screenplay...

Not a bad movie, but lacks authenticity and authority. Why is it necessary to have a maverick disposal guy, surely the reality of bomb disposal must engender enough 'intensity' without this contrived and unlikely plot? I wouldn't give it no more than:  :emot_thmbsup:

In another time and in another war I happened to be part of such teams and granted, ninety-percent of the time when a bomb, booby trap or whatever ones calls it was found everybody scattered for basically two reasons - self preservation and the chance an ambush would coincide with finding such device. Then, when it was deemed safe, someone would be assigned by the ranking officer to check the device out. But, on occasion, we did have the "cowboy" type who ran towards the device when everyone else was running away from it, not only risking serious injury or death to himself if the bomb did expode or was command detonated, but also serious injury from his own troops when we needed to fire around him so he could safely return back to our side. But watching The Hurt Locker did bring back the sudden intensiveness that accompanies a situation like that.

Just watched the Sherlock Holmes movie. It had its moments and Rachel Mcadams was easy on the eyes, but I still like the old black and white movies that starred Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.

Just watched Dead Snow on Netflix. I've got just one word for you. Zombie FUCKING Nazis!

Knowing that, what can you expect from it. I was entertained by it. It is subtitled.

Spoilers below.

There were some things I did find humorous. A guy gets bitten on the arm, and he freaks out, because everyone knows that when you get bitten by a zombie, you turn into one. He chops his arm off with a chainsaw, then cauterizes the wound with fire. Now, everything is fine for him (except for missing an arm) until a zombie comes up from the snow and bites him on the johnson. The look on his face was priceless.
Another small thing I caught was when they were fighting back, a guy had a hammer and a sickle, and when he started running at the zombies, he crossed them. I do not believe they were Russian, but Nazis vs Russians reference.

Fuck that fucking piece of shit movie. Giving this oscars is like saying Top Gun was oscar-worthy. "You can defuse my bomb anyday, Maverick!" That's what this movie reminded me of, Top Gun. Fucking terrible.

Don't sugar-coat it, how do you really feel? l0lz1

Andrew,

In regards to the Hurt Locker, I agree on your take of why it shouldn't have been nominated for all those Academy Awards.  Hollywood rarely does justice to anything factual. Personally, it opened up long ago emotions/feelings from similar experiences and I was able to relate somewhat to that, although, like you had stated, some of the things portrayed would never have come off in real life.

I rarely ever get into awards. I do not need someone to tell me if a movie was good or not.
Sometimes I can see it for actors, but not really for movies.

Last movie I saw was "Clash of the Titans" it was pretty good, not anything like the 1981 version, but its watchable. Nice action, effects were good, women were sexy too! Waiting to see Iron Man 2!

I'm really into movies
I remember during my high school years, I saved up ALL of my ticket stubs.
One day I added all of it together and it amounted to over $500

The last movie I saw was Kick-Ass
I liked it. I'll definitely be buying the Blu-Ray
Overall I thought it was really good.
But the movie was more about Hit Girl and Big Daddy and Kick-Ass was more like a minor character/narrator.
Still, the actions scenes are awesome and the humor was excellent, although sometimes the humor is a bit too forced and becomes awkward.

Feel free to post my stories anywhere.

Some great (relatively new) movies just off the top of my head:

District 9
Best fucking film I have seen in a long, long time. Just fantastic, powerful, full of depth.

A Single Man
Colin Firth is amazing, should have taken home the Oscar for this one. Matthew Goode is astounding, really one of my favorite actors right now.

Repo Men
I really enjoyed this one. It wasn't perfect, but definitely worth watching. Very visceral, but not gratuitous in my opinion. Very apropos violence.

The Book of Eli
Surprisingly I enjoyed this one. Has a nice twist, and the cameo from Frances Dela Tour made me enjoy it even more than I might otherwise have. A lot better than I expected. Basically a samurai movie. Very Kurosawa in some respects.

Star Trek
I thought JJ Abrams brilliantly resurrected this franchise into something great again.

Sharkwater
Interesting documentary. Gutsy filmmaking, for sure.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Brilliant, but then what if Terry Gilliam's work isn't? Brazil is in my top ten favorite movies of all time, after all.

Wolf Man
I am a werewolf fan, and I really got into this homage to classic monster flicks. It was everything I would have expected in 1935, except with far better visuals effects, and Anthony fucking Hopkins.

For upcoming films, I am interested in seeing: Paper Man, The City of Your Final Destination, Iron Man 2, Toy Story 3, The Kids Are Alright,

Pirate Radio.  Good movie, great soundtrack for those who remember the 60s.

Well guys - I freekin loved Iron Man 2! It was just what I wanted it to be. You know how you see a movie with friends and when you walk out of the theater, you kinda take a poll? One by one, your friends go, "I liked it, what did you think?" "Oh it was ok, did you like it?" and so on and so on...

This movie ended for me with four, early 30's lesbians cackling like chickens outside the theater, "OMG THAT WAS SO AWESOME!" "I LOVED IT!" "I WANNA SEE IT AGAIN!"

Now to a couple of points for me.

First: Robert Downey Jr. is freekin hawt and amazing. I don't care what your gender is, the man is a true MOVIE STAR! He has appeal... PERIOD.

Second: The on screen chemistry between RJD and Gwyneth Paltrow. This is what happens when you put to ACTORS up on a big screen, and have them really work a scene. I had one friend remark to me that she did not like the way they always talk on top of each others lines. I told her to go rent Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell in "His Girl Friday" and then talk to me...

Third (and what most of you were expecting me to list first): Scarlett Johansson!

She made my jeans wet... nuff said?

XOXO

I agree with Gia 100%- this was a fantastic movie.

*Added by Gia1978 SPOILER ALERT!

I would only add that Paul Bettany as Jarvis was hilarious as usual, the cameo of Stan Lee as Larry King was epic, I could have done without the Bill O'Reilly spot, and Stark using Captain America's shield as a leveler was just priceless. Thor's hammer reveal at the end of the credits was awesome. I'm looking forward to Captain America, Thor, and Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Black Widow in the upcoming Avengers film.

And speaking of Thor, this is a film I am sooo looking forward to. Chris Hemsworth plays the lead, he is known for his role as George Kirk in Star Trek, which was phenomenal. It's directed by Kenneth Branagh, of whom I am a huge fan. Hailstrum will be played by lesser known actor Joshua Cox, but I'm excited to see him in this because I grew up watching him on Babylon 5 (as Lt. Corwin for those who remember).

Thanks AoT - I actually think the appearance of Bill O'Reilly was spot on, and mirrored what would most likely happen in real life. Not to mention it was a cool callback to the appearance of the CNBC "Mad Money" host Jim Cramer in the first Iron Man.

I don't know if you have heard the rumor, but the buzz here in LA is that Sir Anthony Hopkins is in negotiations to play Thor's daddy Odin, in the movie.

WOOOOOOO! GO SEE IRON MAN!
