Need to catch up on my movie reviews so here goes:
A Good Day To Die Hard: Bruce Willis back again as John McClane, tough, wise cracking NYC Detective now traveling to Russia to check on his estranged son, Jack McClane (Jai Courtney) who is caught up in a political scandal that dates back to the Cold War era of Soviet Russia. John goes to Russia to help is son only to find out it is far worse than what it seems which may lead to a Nuclear attack inside Moscow. I would say the cast was great with Bruce, only problem I had it didn't seem like a "Die Hard" movie, it was more like a typical Bruce Willis action film with the "Die Hard" name slapped on it. To me it felt like Bruce took a back seat to Jai Courtney's character. This one could have been a lot better.
OZ, The Great And Powerful: A new twist on a old classic fairy tale which stars James Franco as Oscar "Oz" Diggs, a con man, magician and womanizer who has run into bad luck in Kansas when a performance goes sour for the Carnival he works for, his girlfriend is leaving to marry another "good man" and he's being hunted by a jilted lover's husband. During an impending storm, Oz takes off in a hot air balloon only to have the hot air balloon get caught in a tornado that sends him away landing him in the magical, mystical land of OZ where he meets Theodora (Mila Kunis) a beautiful Witch who tells him of a prophecy of a Wizard falling from the sky to come free OZ from the Wicked Witch. He goes with her to the Emerald City, along the way they meet a flying Monkey, Finley (Zach Braff) and they also meet Theodora's older sister, Evanora (Rachel Weisz) who also tells Oscar of his destiny to become the Ruler of Oz. Oscar decides if he wants to be rich and famous he and Finely must go to kill the Wicked Witch of Oz only to find out the truth of what is going on in OZ. Michelle Williams also stars as Glinda and Joey King as China Girl. I really liked this one,it was like watching the classic Wizard of Oz only much better with tons of special effects, great costumes, lots of great actors and not drowned out by a HUGE musical number (though I do like Somewhere Over The Rainbow from the classic Oz movie). This here tells the tale of how Oz became Oz, became the ruler and how the Wicked Witches came into power in Oz! Go see it, I saw it twice it was worth it!
Incendiary A British film from 2009, starring Michelle Williams as a Mother of a 4 year old son, whom she loves dearly and her bomb-disposal officer husband with whom she has a so-so marriage, who goes off to have a one night stand with a neighbor across the street a newspaper writer (Ewan McGregor). One day her husband and son go to a football match and the Mother sees her lover again only to witness a terrorist attack at the stadium where her son and husband are at. After their deaths, she tries to cope with the loss of them, especially her son whom she seemed more attached to. Blaming her affair on their deaths, her lover tries to investigate the attack while her late husband's boss tries to comfort her. What happens is that the truth behind the attack is revealed which causes a terrible wave of emotions that effects the Mother for the rest of the film. Good story here, very sad at times, but lots of great acting especially from Michelle Williams who even outshines her former lover, the late great, Heath Ledger! Worth seeing this one!
The Merry Gentleman A film from 2009, by Michael Keaton which stars Keaton as a hit man, Frank Logan who has been doing jobs during Christmas time in Chicago to wind up in an unlikely relationship with a abused woman from a bad marriage, Kate Frazier (Kelly Macdonald) whom he helped one night at her Apartment. Kate does not know that Frank was to kill her because she witnessed his last job,but Frank has a change of heart and decides to have a relationship with her. A very touching drama from Michael Keaton, I really liked his and Kelly's performances here and the story makes you wonder what will happen next. Worth seeing especially if you are a fan of Michael Keaton.
