Oh, yeah. Phone is all I got. Can't afford anything else.
It's a phone I never heard of, ZTE.

My parents gave me that Motorola flip phone in 1997, when I was a junior in high school. I "upgraded" to an LG phone with a slide out keyboard for texting (I don't remember the name) around 2006, and I used it for years. I got my first smart phone (an original Apple SE) in 2016 (one of my brothers gave it to me for Christmas), and I still use it today.

Wow. I felt like a Luddite when I waited until 2013 to get my first smartphone. Since then I've been about 5 generations behind. I was using a Galaxy Note 5 when the Note 11 was released. My Note 5 finally died last year.  :(

I'm surprised you can still use the SE. Apple is notorious for leaving older phones out of their operating system updates (or so I've been told).

Not a parent, but I remember it was Tickle Me Elmo at some point?  ;D

I gave my daughter a Tickle Me Elmo -- for her 19th birthday.

My wife tried to talk me out of it, saying she's 19, not 9, but I didn't listen.

When she opened it and squealed with joy I just looked at my wife and winked.

My daughter is closing in on 50 now, but she still has Elmo. She told me a few months ago it was the best gift she ever got.

Don't know why but the above posted a second time.

Maybe the system was choked up with laughter after CT's reply #17 above.  :emot_laughing:

  • I said it's weird, not that I wouldn't do it.

All my friends had cell phones in school, but I never had one until I could buy my own, and then it was the cheapest prepaid I could get. My mother never wanted me to have one, and even though I bought it with my own money, I knew she would take it and get rid of it if she found it. All my friend going around with RAZRs, and I have the Nokia whatsit. Still had an antenna.

A cell phone would just "make it easier to be the town slut"

After I joined the Army and escaped that horrid bitch I always bought the best I could. I remember them getting smaller and smaller, and now with screens, they are getting bigger and bigger.

When I was in Korea, their cellphones were literal keychains. The charger I have for my current phone is bigger than those phones were.

Now I'm happy with whatever phone I get with a deal. I haven't upgraded my phone for about 5-6 years. It's starting to "fail" now. The internet keeps disconnecting when I'm attached to wifi, and now when I make a call, the sound drops to almost nothing even though I have it turned up to max. I have to use bluetooth or the headphones that came with it.
