We usually talk about religion in 1408.
First, no one is going to “hell” for “eternity.” Two primitive concepts invented by superstitious primitive people.
Second, baptism is considered a sacrament. So, if the sacrament was conferred improperly, the orthodox viewpoint is that it wasn’t conferred at all.
The irony of it is that the Catholic Church has been changing things for hundreds of years. Purgatory, indulgences, the prohibition of marriage by priests, the immaculate conception of Mary, and others, are all Catholic heresies that got Christianity in the mess it’s in right now. These practices gave us Martin Luther, the universal priesthood of believers, and sola scriptura. And 45,000 denominational sects.
Think one word isn’t important? Google “Filioque.” One word that split the Christian church in two in 1054. The Roman pope changed the Nicene Creed, without calling an ecumenical council. When he was called to account on it, he excommunicated the rest of the Christian world.
