Little Richard, still remembered (by old folks like me) has died at the age of 87.
He rocked out with hits like "Tutti Frutti", "Long Tall Sally", "Good Golly Miss Molly" and others in the mid '50s.

I first memory of him is "Keep a Knockin" (But you can't come in.) A line that made up most of the songs lyrics.

As rock started to sweep the country, I fell in love with the genre. Parents, not so much, but they were tolerant with occasional asides about how awful it was.
I was able to start buying records and play them in my room (door closed) Little Richard hit the scene and I wanted "Keep A Knockin". Got a big and final no from the parents on that one. I had no reason why, but knew it was final.

Many years later I learned Little Richard was gay and I remembered the parents being so totally against him. I've wondered if they knew he was gay, and if so how.  It wasn't something openly discussed in the 1950s. I don't think I even knew there was such a thing as gay people.

Gay or not, I enjoyed Little Richard's high powered style of rock 'n roll and enjoyed seeing him still making appearances in later years.  He just kept rock'n on. Rock heaven for us Little Richard.
