FYI, over 90% of people with Zika won't even know that they have it.  That makes the number of people around Houston ACTUALLY INFECTED as high as maybe 300.  There are 24 confirmed, but undoubtedly many more that are asymptomatic or can't afford a visit to the doctor for 'the flu'...

edit:
About 1 in 5 people infected with Zika virus become ill (i.e., develop Zika). The most common symptoms of Zika virus are fever, rash, joint pain, and conjunctivitis (red eyes). Other common symptoms include muscle pain and headache. The illness is usually mild with symptoms lasting for several days to a week. Severe disease requiring hospitalization is uncommon, and deaths are rare.

You may have any, all, or none of these symptoms and still be infected.

Didn't you hear? Zika, like global warming, is a liberal lie.

There are three kinds of people in the world. Those who can count, and those who can't.

They want to make force women to have babies, and not just healthy babies, but babies that are born with a life threatening condition that might cause mental retardation.

Quite a few dollars are available, and being utilized for ZIKA, the excess left in a few Executive accounts from other emergency funding. Trouble is, the Obama Administration is not spending much where we need it at home, but spending those funds overseas, in some questionable manners, and for items Democrats and Republicans in Congress have so far rejected in dialog about ZIKA funding.

It is not a matter of money being available, but rather of choices made not to fund United States priorities, but priorities that will be excluded by the ZIKA funding Congress may approve, when the time comes that agreement can be had via regular order in the House.

States need to look to the Administration, should they require reimbursement for actions necessary to protect the State's citizens and priorities, and each State should be doing the right thing as to their own people now, not waiting for Democrats and Republicans to agree to final wording later in this session.

It's coming.  Glad Congress decided to go on recess before approving any Zika funds.  Priorities, priorities.

And just to make your day, West Nile Virus is active in the DFW Metroplex again.  Here's the latest trap results:
http://www.dallascounty.org/department/hhs/documents/DCHHSEpiWNVWeeklyReport_8_1_2016.pdf

The short and sweet from that report: 40 out of 235 traps in the Metroplex tested positive for WNV last week.  Fourteen human WNV cases, including 7 patients with neuroinvasive disease have been reported.  Just like Zika, over 90% of the people with WNV don't know that they have it.

Severe WNV infections can cause neurologic complications such as encephalitis and death.  Milder symptoms include fever, headache and muscle aches.

If you have to be outside around dawn or sunset, wear 40% DEET or stronger.  REI and other places have 95% DEET formulations.  That shit WILL eat the paint off of a painted surface: I've seen it happen in the Caribbean when I was down there.  I spilled a few drops on a shelf, and it stripped the paint down to the wood.  It didn't even slow down the mosquitoes in Grenada... those bastards were biting me right through shirt and jeans at all hours of the day.  DEET was a spice for 'em.  >:(
