So one of the cops is charged with "second-degree murder with a depraved heart.". With a depraved heart? I love it. What exactly does that mean in lawyerese?

And I love this line "Prisoners were never secured with seat belts during field training, and though cadets were instructed to secure prisoners with seat belts, they were not shown how, Porter said.".

Is it possible that the reason they did not show you how is that they assumed someone of your age already figured out the highly complex task of operating a seatbelt?

While you're waiting in vain for that apology, why don't you make yourself useful by getting on your knees and opening your mouth

The Officers were clearly 'over-charged', at least, and likely did nothing different for this transport, and arrest, than Freddie Gray had experienced
each other time he was arrested and transported.

Getting spit upon by the unruly hogtied prisoners, some with potential for
health problems from their saliva; potential to be bit by the same rabble;
and a failure to bend to the Politically Correct nature of the most recent printing of the regulations, this time "requiring" a seat belt... when to this day, no school bus requires a seat belt at all, and the fact that for many years, it was against policy to belt in prisoners, indicates that no special actions were taken, for or against Heroine Peddler (and addict?) Freddie Gray, a frequent traveller in Police custody.

Mr. Gray's self inflicted injuries, in an attempt to be directed to a hospital rather than directly to jail, as attested to by a fellow prisoner, also not seat belted, in the cage next to Mr. Gray, would explain how he created and suffered injury. It was an occupational hazard for street criminals with bad attitudes in Baltimore.

Hung Jury in the first trial of the Baltimore Police Officers who did their duty and are being persecuted for the sake of PC and giving in to the thug society by what passes for leadership in this failed Maryland city.

The Officer in this case performed exactly as his colleagues expected, followed the training and experience of his years on the force, as was testified to by his supervisors and others. Whether the training was adequate, or the written book procedures were impractical, incompatible with reality, or whatever, clearly the Jury could not find him guilty of the wishlist of charges presented.

Hung on all four charges. We shall see how the prosecution proceeds on this, and on the other six Officers similarly charged.

Give us Barabbas!

Wrong. He did not follow training or policy.

An analysis of the verdict commented on the hung jury likely giving credence to this being a systemic problem and not solely an brogue individual.

It's still an indictment of what is wrong with that police force.

...an brogue individual...

Wait: Are you saying that an Irish guy did it?

Maybe.

Or a rogue individual.

:D

Agreed, Baltimore Cops need to take a good look at their actual activities, and find a way to construct "seat belts" that are "safe" for the Officer to use on their charges. I suppose a hood over the prisoner's head would be one solution...

This first trial was to be the bellwether, as this was the strongest case the Prosecution had, and a guilty as charged verdict here was predicted to create opportunity for plea bargaining to have some of the others charged to testify against other Officers as their trials come up. Messed up those plans, seems.

January 6, 2016 is the Van Driver's case, and a negotiated sentence was hoped in the first trial, to encourage this Defendant to testify against the van driving Officer. That appears out the window at this point. Hopefully cold weather will help in keeping Baltimorons indoors during subsequent trials, and save the city.

No time for riots in Baltimore, Maryland... It is high shoplifting season for the next two weeks... plenty of time for riots around the January 6, 2016 trial...
