I miss who I was
I can't tell you enough
Just how much
I miss who I was
I had a light
In my eyes
That came
From my heart
But it's fading
Dying much too fast
It's intangible
So I can't hold on
I can't pull it back
I miss the old days
When I still had
A hope
A dream
A chance

Shit, if I wrote this one, I would have titled it Zoloft. Great poem, DD.

I have lost myself along the way too...   :-[

I'm a lady on the street, a Mrs. in the house and whore in the bedroom...

I have also been lost and I know doubt will be again, thankfully reading your words today I know I'm not but not so long ago they could have been my words.

I enjoyed that very much, thank you so much for sharing it with us.

Easy to identify with, especially as a married woman.  One automatically loses a part of themselves, becoming part of a pair.  For some reason most of society identifies  you as "so and so's wife," rather than seeing you as an individual.  There goes another part  of "me" once those babies arrive.   Now that's a part I would gladly give up, the part where you are not "me" but "mama."

Sorry for rambling y'all, you know how I get sometimes.   :D

We all change, each day, week, month, year. You are correct tho tiny in that the big changes arewhen you get married. Don't think that it's just the women that change, us men do also.

As for the babies. YES, women change the most but so do us men. My whole life was turned upside the day my boys were born. It's starting to come back together now that they are teens but it will never, ever be the same as before. There are days I miss the old life but then I look across the room and I loose all them thoughts.

Of course men change Eric, I didn't think otherwise.  I replied as a woman.

Yes, she was responding to the poem also, which was written by a woman...

OK, I knew all of that. I was only saying, as a male and a husband and a dad, that men change also and that we can also feel like the old us is gone or slowly fading away.

Okay, I misread that. Sorry, I read something into your words you didn't write, so thanks for clarifying.

I agree, especially if that married man has kids, but even if everyone is still referring to him by his first name, in their minds, he is part of a pair.

There are a billion different ways our identities get fractured- race, culture, politics, relationships, careers... that's why I liked this one so much, it is so universally relatable.

Don't sweat the petty stuff, pet the sweaty stuff.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments.

Latina, WBL,TD, I'm glad you enjoyed this. It's so easy to get lost when you become a smaller piece in an ever-growing picture

guys , some of you know  me better than others , but I am lost the past few months wont go  into the mechanics of what my thoughts are if i will execute them , there is a slight pull that has me anchored but it grows weaker sometimes . and I am scared sometimes its just that i am not me and the old me is gone . if i cant even bring myself  to come on here i am lost .  listening the + and - the minus seems to be winning

When you lose those pieces of yourself, are they really lost? Or did they morph into something new? Maybe they weren't what you had always thought they would or should be... They are still you, none-the-less.

Thought provoking poem!

Sure I'm crazy! It's the only thing that keeps me from going insane!

DD... terrific words of personal sentiment... but now find yourself the new days to give you hope... a dream... and a chance... Here you have provided yet more wonderful words...thought provoking... but you are a strong fun loving character who will overcome the past and proceed to a happy future...

Pornflik and Vinney, I wrote these words years ago when I was in a very dark and lonely place. I have since learned my life hasn't ended, it is only beginning. Some doors have shut, yes, but many more have opened.

^_^

Thank you both for your kind words  :emot_kiss:
