Poverty is a big issue but most impoverished people do not commit wanton shootings and killing. Lack of jobs is another issue but many jobs that once were open to young people are no longer available and more and more jobs are requiring more education. Plus, jobs that teens usually took are now being held by adults who need the income, thus limiting the opportunities.

There are probably three generations or more of families who have lived and are still living on welfare. Does long term welfare take away the incentive to work?

Break down in the family unit. Less respect for authority, which I understand giving what has happened over the last three years.

And what I think is very important - if the youth and young adults see their so called leaders do things that tarnish the title to the jobs they are holding and get away with it, how can we, as adults blame the youth for feeling very flustered and wanting to act to change the system?

Supposedly, the Cook County State's Attorney is dismissing cases of minor crimes but more then a few who are not being prosecuted are repeat gun offenders which has Chicago's mayor and police chief constantly criticizing her because of the rampant gun violence plaguing our city, along with mobs of young people randomly looting stores along the Magnificent Mile. I am guessing much of the problem is political as the State's Attorney is backed by the president of Cook County who lost in the race for mayor and now there is no love lost between the two camps.
