The University of Michigan has instituted a policy allowing students to choose the way they want professors to address them in class.  What?  Somehow I can see where this policy will be abused and soon rescinded.

Why? That's been the norm as far as I know. What student would request  being addressed as 'Bimbo', or 'Asshole' in the third row??

Personally, I'd ask to be called "Your Majesty," or, perhaps, "Your Highness." It has a nice ring to it.

I was thinking "Dean of the Faculty"

That is all.

Wait: Isn't "Your" a neutral pronoun?

Should I have instead used a definite article, i.e. "The Majesty" or "The Highness"?

But that would be wrong, since I am asserting there is only one "Majesty" and one "Highness."

Plus, I would be elevating myself above others, which is wrong.

I am SO confused!

Actually, there is only 1 Majesty per royal monarchy but several Highness. The Queen of England is Her Majesty (in the third person) or Your Majesty when addressing her. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are all His/Her/Your Highness.

Have I cleared up the confusion???

That is all.

For me, "Your Imperial Majesty."

GB, I am totally enjoying your exchange with Toe, but you're dealing with a legal mind. He's like the Terminator, he won't be stopped, he can't be stopped. He'll keep coming up with legalistic retorts. :^)
