(CNN) The nominees for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2018 were announced Thursday.

This year's group includes 19 nominees from all different musical genres.

They are:

• Bon Jovi
• Kate Bush
• The Cars
• Depeche Mode
• Dire Straits
• Eurythmics
• J. Geils Band
• Judas Priest
• LL Cool J
• MC5
• The Meters
• Moody Blues
• Radiohead
• Rage Against the Machine
• Rufus featuring Chaka Khan
• Nina Simone
• Sister Rosetta Tharpe
• Link Wray
• The Zombies

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of induction which means the 2018 nominees had to release their first official recording no later than 1992.

Nine of the Class of 2018 nominees are first-timers to the list.

I thought Sister Rosetta Tharpe was already inducted.   I would have bet money on it.   One of my favorite bands of all time.   The Eurythmics.   My sister had me hooked on The Cars when I was not even a teen.   Mine in no particular order........

Joan Jett is awesome! She is a first class guitarist, has 3 gold or platinum albums and is considered one of the founders of American punk rock.

Dire Straits
The Moody Blues
Nina Simone
Sister Rosetta Tharpe

At the risk of sounding like I'm bragging (which is, of course, exactly what I'm doing), I got five out of six right from the list of nominees.

And the exclusion of Judas Priest (again) adds more grist to the mill of Heavy Metal fans who see an ant-metal bias in the voting.

I only picked 3 out of the six.  Radiohead will be there eventually, but should have made it in their first year of eligibility.
