I think Trump is taking advantage of Comey's errors over Clinton's emails (which were in part responsible for getting Trump elected) to get rid of him for other reasons. Why? So Trump can put someone in his place who feels some loyalty to the president, and perhaps will not look too hard at the Russian connections.

Timing is poor. It does indeed look like Trump is attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Time to start demanding impeachment proceedings, and possibly treason charges.

I am certain that the real reason is so that Trump can forestall the investigation into Russian collusion into his campaign.  If I ever doubted Russian collaboration, all doubts have been erased with Trump's action.  As for Trump's supporters, they will support it if he tells them it's because Comey found no criminal wrongdoing with regards to Hillary's emails.

To be fair, Comey fucked up big time when he claimed that Huma Abedin regularly forwarded home Hillary's emails to her ex-husband's computer so she could print them out.  This was not true.  The few emails found on Weiner's computer were most likely found there from a back-up of Huma Abedin's BlackBerry, and none of these emails were marked "confidential".

Yes, Lois, Comey opened himself up to this with a number of questionable moves prior to and after the election. But I agree with everyone here who thinks that Trump is merely using this to rid himself of a person who has gotten too close to the truth.

Not that it will work; this thing has gotten too big to be hushed up, and getting rid of Comey will only increase scrutiny.
